Update switches and ESXi servers
Hi Everyone
Just wanted to know whether updating the firmware on switches is possible through OME
I have also noticed that with our ESXi blade servers are coming up compliant with system firmware. I know for a fact they arent.
Model: PE M710
Current BIOS: 6.1.0
Latest BIOS: 6.3.0 (according to dell drivers and downloads)
Is there something else I need to install? I have seen that there is a dell management plugin for vCenter

Hi,
Thanks for your post.
OME does not support updating firmware on network switches. Updates are supported for Dell servers and chassis.
OME currently does not support updating ESXi servers. Next version of OME will support Out of band updates using iDracs. That can be used to update ESXi servers. The new version will be released in Q4 this year.

Hi Abhijit P
I have recently upgraded to ESXi 5.1 and installed OME 1.1. Im having issues updating the hosts through OME. I have made the default update setting to 'Remote Access Controller'. I have discovered both the iDRAC and the host through WS-MAN. I get the below error
Results:
Downloading Packages.
Package ESM_Firmware_PW2GX_WN32_3.42_A00.EXE failed to download on target device. Package M710_Lifecycle-Controller_Application_04TPX_WN32_7.1.1.1_A00.EXE failed to download on target device. Package Lifecycle-Controller_Application_6V5JC_WN32_1.5.5.27_A00.EXE failed to download on target device. Package Diagnostics_Application_F81WT_WN32_5157A0_5157.1.EXE failed to download on target device. Package M710_BIOS_3K97V_WN32_6.3.0.EXE failed to download on target device. Update failed.
Software Update Task Failed.
I am using the root credentials and I have tested the WS-MAN credentials through the troublehshooting tool. The troubleshooting tool comes up with the physical details of the host.
These packages came from the Server repository software and were recently downloaded. I also tick the Skip signature tickbox when updating
Am I missing something here?
Thanks

dshaun,
This is a known issue with iDRAC firmware on 11G servers (iDRAC 6). You need to upgrade to the following firmware versions *first* before updating any other components. This is due to some changes in the certificates on the update package.
• iDRAC6/LC Firmware Release Information
o Rack/Tower (monolithic) – v 1.85
o Blades (modular) – v3.35
• LC 1.5.2
You can also follow this thread for more info:
en.community.dell.com/.../20230933.aspx
We are planning to write a script to allow customers to upgrade just iDRAC firmware on Rack/Tower servers to 1.85 and on Blades to v3.35. It may take another week or so due to holidays.
Thanks,
Raj Shresta
