DRM EMC Smart Bootable ISO Deployment Signage failure

The iso to update my 11G servers fails with the error "Signature verification for inventory collector failed". The .sign-file seems to be missing completly. I've found many posts already talking about this issue - all closed with "the bug is fixed" - semms like it isn't

Did you need assistance getting the server brought up to date in another manner, or were you looking to report and work this issue? I want to make sure I understand, so I can help more effectively.

I need assistance updating them. I currently have six 11G servers, all with outdated firmware/BIOS etc. Since the ISO obviously doesn't work, I'm in need of alternatives (which don't need a operating system to be installed on the server).

Have you tried using the Lifecycle controller to pull updates from our catalog?

Tried the LLC, didn't work. First time trying with ftp.dell.com I'm getting "Can't resolve hostname". Network was properly configured, tho. After putting in the IP directly, it says "Make sure that the Windows(R) catalog and Dell(TM) Update Packages for Windows(R) are used.".

Do you happen to know what version the iDRAC and Lifecycle controller are on at present? I've seen similar access related issues pop up with those being too far behind what we have hosted.

I'll download DRM and make an .ISO for an 11G system in the lab as well in order to see if I can replicate the error.

  • iDRAC 6, Firmware: 2.90B04
  • BIOS: 6.4.0
  • LCC: 1.7.5.4

Hope this helps, if you need additional information, please let me know!

I have multiple servers, two R710 with the firmware I posted earlier.

Another R710 with iDRAC6 v2.85B04, a R610 with LCC v1.5.1.57 & iDrac6 v1.97B02, another R610 with iDrac6 v2.80B03 and one R210II with Bios v2.2.3, iDrac6 v1.95B05 and LCC v1.5.1.57.

Doesn't work on any of them

Looks like the current iDRAC6 version is 2.92 and the LCC should be up to date, so I doubt that'll be the issue. BIOS is obviously going to be different model to model, but I doubt 6.4.0 is going to be far behind on any of them. I checked a R710 and it's latest was 6.6.

I was unaware of this, but I'm being told they stopped hosting firmware in the catalog for anything older than the 12th generation systems. You'd have to create your repository and manually add every update file to it for each model. Talking with some of the phone techs, it sounds like that method is taking more time than running individual updates. It may be more practical to consider using something like a Linux live image to run updates from a USB.

I know you had mentioned needing something that ran out of band, so I still wanted to share a way you might be able to get it done.

1. Create a repo in DRM.

2. Select your repository, then you should be able to click on the import button on the right. You'll have to manually add each file there.

3. Once you're ready to export, you should be able to follow the export wizard. Make sure that only the updates you want  used are selected.

Well, the LiveLinux-ISO failing because of a missing signature file was the initial reason for this ticket. So since that doesn't work (or has it been fixed in the meantime?) it won't be an option.

for clarification, I'm not suggesting the Dell bootable firmware image, so much as a generalized image. The files that would apply to the servers you mentioned aren't in the catalog at this point, so that image wouldn't help anyway.

Can you please update the Dell EMC Server Update Utility x64 Plug-in to latest version #794(under Application preferences>plugins) and try Smart Bootable ISO creation again. You should not be seeing the signage failure now.

Let us know if it works.

Worked flawlessly on my R710 so far. Will try the others in the next days, but there shouldn't be any issues left. Thanks!
