If the 2 drives failed at exactly the same time the hotspare wouldn't have picked up as the raid set was offline before the hotspare could do anything to rebuild data.
The only way to not lose disk access when 2 drives fail simultaneously (or at least close enough together where the hotspare couldn't finish a rebuild), is to run raid 6 (not available on the AX100 or AX150) or to be running a raid 10 and be lucky enough that the 2 failed drives weren't both part of the same single mirror.
As for a partnumber for the battery backup, a bit of digging in Google got me this link; http://www.serverpartswarehouse.com/g5688.html. You can also try Dell spare parts for it.
