After market CPU Fan & Heatsink combo

Have a new XPS 9000 with a I core 920 CPU. Running 12 gigs of ram and a 1tb hardrive. Windows 7 home premium. What after market Fan & Heatsink for CPU will fit into case?

Dell often has proprietary monitoring of the fans so removing the dell fan would cause a shutdwown due to fan failure.

Changing this item would void your warranty.

Lately Dell has been using standard PWM fans in their systems, so if you have a 4-pin connection to your fan then it is most likely a PWM fan.  Therefore just about any aftermarket PWM fan that fits in your case can be used.

Hi B. Naea,

I was thinking the same thing. I am fixing to replace my 8 year old Gen-1 XPS with an XPS 9100. The XPS 9000 and 9100 have the same cpu cooling heatsink and fan. Do you also have that plastic peace around your fan? Intel has two heat-sink and fans they now sell for there 4 and 6 core cpu,s. The one in the 9000 and 9100 look to be the basic model with that plastic thingy around it. The other heat-sink and fan they sale is supposed to be for over-clockers. It is pretty big and Iam not sure it would fit. But if it would it would do a heck of a cooling job. Here are the two links to each cooler http://www.overclock.net/air-cooling/795623-does-intel-980x-stock-cooler-fit.html   http://www.neoseeker.com/Articles/Hardware/Reviews/nehalem_core_i7_review/8.html. What kind of tempertures do you get with your 9000 under idle and high load situations?

no it does not,i have changed everything in the computer except the things on the mobo(ram, cpu&NB HS) it self and it dont slow down a thing or shut down!

and it doen not void anything!i had sent back my old 435mt(and i know this aint the model we are talking about) for a recall and they didnt give me any greef over anything, just save all the old parts just in case.

a good fan controler should be used if you plan to use any aftermarket fan set-up.and you should think about useing a lil fan for the heatsink by the cpu it well keep the temps down.this is the 1 that i use and it works well! http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835706031

make sure to use some good paste on the heatsink and you well be good to go!

None of my four Dells (2350, 4550, 220s, and 540s) uses proprietary fan monitoring.

Yes there is a "funnel of love" extending from heatsink and fan. I used Prime 95 to stress test cpu. Temps went up to 80 C. Very disturbing. Idle is running at 40 C using Core Temp. I hope this helps,

I think 40 idle 80 at stress is ok..  what is your ambient (room) temps??
