Dell monitor/computer stuck in power save mode

My dell monitor won't come on, it's blank and when you press any of the monitor buttons it says, "in power safe mode press any key on keyboard or move mouse". I have tried pressing every keyboard button and monitor button and it doesn't get out of Power Save Mode.

How do i get it out of power save mode?

Thanks

Here is an update ... went to the AMD site for my DH3450, downloaded and installed the latest Catalyst package (released last month) and driver.  So so good.  Have not encountered a blank-screen problem since.  Going to turn back on some of the things I disabled before and see if I really have a fix.  (Have now had several exchanges with Dell support - they try but not very effective.)

What I found out is this ... - the ATI V3100 I have in my PC produces a DVI-I signal. And the Dell 2408WFP has a DVI-D. There are compatibility issues with this connection.

But - I have these instructions on getting the monitor unstuck ... While the PC is on, disconnect the monitor power cord from the bottom of the monitor. Hold the power button in for 5 seconds. Reconnect the power cord. Turn the monitor on. It should wake up.

For me - since my Video card had both VGA and DVI - I simply switched to the VGA ports - and my problem has completely gone away. The monitor doesn't get stuck in power-save mode anymore.

I was told it sounded like my video card might have failed.  I opened up the computer disconennected one by one and cleaned it out so i didn't forget where the hookups go. As soon as i got done doing all that i turned my computer back on and I had it working. I know nothing about computers but thats what worked for me. it actually took me the third time of turning it on and off to correct how the video looked. sorry If this wasn't helpful to you but it helped me. My computer's a dell optiplex 320.

When I had the same problem the error was that the monitor cable was not working. Try using a different cable for the monitor.

The only way to get round this shambles of a problem is to go into power settings and change the settings to "turn off monitor" Never

After reading hundreds of forums, and not finding answers...I thought it through. When it gets stuck in power saver mode and you try everything, what about the memory? I removed my memory card, counted to ten and put it back in place. It cleared everything, the lights came back on the keyboard and mouse. From there, I could click and take the pc out of power save mode.... Try that, it may work for you. This was done on a Dell Inspirion 560 Desktop.

Hi D Kemmler,

As stated above, "power save mode" means that your monitor is getting no signal from the computer. The problem is not the monitor.

Double check your video card - there are two types of DVI - and they are not 100% compatible:

This has been reported as the cause in many cases to our internal customer service department.
