Dell systems and com ports

I am running Windows 2000 on both my laptop and desktop and cannot get Compainion link, an app that is used to sync PDA's with Outlook 2000 to sync with either system. (A Deminsions L933r and a Latitude C600) It tells me "the com port is in used by another application." The is the actual error I did not mispell it. everytime I select the com port in that app it gives me that error. Is there an update that allows it to work with Win2000. It seems to be a problem with the operating system or some utility that Dell installs on the system. Any ideas?

Hi Magnusvi,

I had a problem with an L4100 and a DOS comm program and it turned out to be the Logitech mouse driver was polling the ports looking for the mouse and causing port busy problems. I found the solution on the Logitech site.

Hope this might help,
Dave

Thanks Dave I called Logitech and it indeed is their Mouser driver but that say its becaus the way Win2k is designed and they won't help me. It's the blame game. Do you remember what you did to fix it?

Hi Magnusvi,

The fix I found was for Win98. I don't know if Win2k uses the registry the same way. Here is the link to the fix: http://www.logitech.com/cf/support/1360.cfm?23

I just tried it and it still works, If it doesn't, let me know and I'll send you the text.
