Has anyone taken delivery of the New Studio XPS 435/8000/9000?

I have one on order with the delivery date of 4/1/09.  If anyone has been shipped theirs and had time to put it through it's paces, please comment on what you think. If not please post your expected ship dates so we will know who will be the first to comment!

Thanks!

If these machine are assembled overseas maybe the delays are due more to shipping, clearing customs, and unloading containers than an actual parts shortage.  It would account for a surge of orders showing up or orders suddenly shipping before the estimated dates.

The computers seem to be assembled and shipped domestically--just in this thread alone, people refer repeatedly to their shipments originating in North Carolina.

But if their customer support phone operators are in the US, they seem to have a really heavy bias toward hiring people with Indian names (e.g., Sairam) and Indian accents.

Every order I've seen on this thread - the machine has been assembled/shipped out of Winston-Salem, NC (which is where mine came from).  Parts on the inside are primarily from other countries though.. :emotion-2:

well I was surprised to see that my order shipped today. Yesterday it was suppose to have shipped but I got a delayed notice untill the 27th, but today its shows as "shipped".. I ordered on 4/23

Is that:

(a) a typo?

(b) an order you placed nearly a year ago?

or (c) reverse temporal engineering that allows Dell to ship things before you order them?:emotion-1:

Hello All,

First post here .... have read all of them to date. Ordered my 435MT on 04/07/09. After calling the 800 number, is in build status with a ship date (ESTIMATED OF COURSE) of 05/01/09. Hopefully, with all the shipping going on the last couple of days, Dell finally got some parts in and can fill a few orders. I am hoping not much delay in my order, but not very optimistic about it. I can wait though, my old Optiplex still truckin along ... just thought after 6 years, I needed an upgrade, since mine has only 1st gear these days ... HA HA .. As for the people from India that people have been "having" to talk to, I believe that Dell has done exactly what every credit card company has done ... farm out answering personnel to a third world country for a fraction of the price without any thought of the impact it makes on their customer. I get so frustrated talking to them because they have no authority to do anything and know absolutely nothing about what we are asking them. They just read prepared statements to us as a generic reply that does not even come close to answering our question in the first place. To those of you that have either received your computer or news that your computer has shipped ... congrats! To the rest of you .... move over, its gonna be a long ride!!! .... Jeff Gordon, NM

So for my 435T that was supposed to ship today and arrive on 4/24 (and was changed on the order status page this morning to be 5/1), I just got an automated email from Dell (with the revised Estimated Delivery Date of 5/1):

"There has been a delay in fulfilling your Order Number listed below and we have adjusted the estimated delivery date for this order (see Revised Estimated Delivery Date).

Based on the latest available information, we are confident we will deliver your order on or before this new date. We apologize for the delay and appreciate your patience.

When your order ships we will send you an Order Shipped e-mail which will contain the Estimated Delivery Date and tracking information for your order."

Hard to tell if they are actually "confident [they] will deliver [my] order on or before [5/1]," or whether it's just a form email that everyone gets.

Okay, more weirdness.

Just like someone else stated much earlier in this thread, I just got a second "shipped" date.  Friday morning they said that my computer shipped yesterday (16th), with an expected delivery date of April 24th.  Now Friday evening it shows as having shipped today (17th), with an expected delivery date of April 27th!

Again, not sure how it can ship at two different times....shipped is shipped.  And since I ordered my monitor and speakers separately and have already received them, there is just the one box with the computer to ship, so again....it can only ship once!

Ahh, the fun and games. :emotion-42:

Got my form e-mail, too.  I saw at 7:00 this morning that it was delayed (or "revised"), but the e-mail is time-stamped 4:16 p.m.

They shipped it twice to make absolutely sure that you will get it. :emotion-43: Congrats!

At least you're better off than I am.:emotion-6:

Just check the Fedex tracking numbers that they give you in the next couple days and see where it is.  It may have left their docks. The Email I received from Dell was actually delayed and when I checked Fedex it had left that place at least 2-3 days before I got the email that it was being shipped.  One thing though that I am curious about is which plant built theirs. Mine came out of North Carolina, but I think that I saw on here that there are several plants in the U.S.  (Each plant might have a different shortage so the delays may be different depending on which plant builds your computer)

Previous computers I ordered were all out of Texas.  But then again I think that North Carolina plant is still quite new so it probably didn't exist when I last ordered (2007).

I'll be curious to see where it shipped from too.  I'll post the origin as soon as I know, so far tracking info isn't available.

my xps 435MT is somewhere between Charlotte, NC and Greenville, SC according to FedEX.  Originally shipped from Winston-Salem, NC on 4/16.  Ordered on 3/22.
