HDMI card for Optiplex 9020M post purchase

Hi,

I managed to pick up a "bargain" Optiplex 9020M from Dell outlet which I was planning to use as a HTPC.  Being an outlet model, I did not have the option of specifying the (optional - £32.50) hdmi card, and obviously it was not already included.  This did not concern me I figured if it was optional when ordering, Dell should be able to provide one for retrofit.

However despite much googling and forum searching I am unable to find any details that might help me order this card from dell.  I contacted Dell sales a couple of weeks ago who (after suggesting a "normal" PCI-e HDMI card) promised to look into it and get back to me - not heard back.

The 9020M owners manual clearly shows that this feature is supported with instructions on how to remove and replace this card.  Unfortunately no details about where to obtain this card.
http://www.dell.com/support/manuals/us/en/04/topic/optiplex-9020m-desktop/Opti9020MPub-v1/en-us/GUID-47AF6869-B0A2-41BD-8D10-325354A6E518

If anyone can tell me how to get this hdmi card it would be appreciated.

Many thanks

Shepish

The M is micro form factor and doesnt have HDMI but there is a display port board.  Unfortunately the cable and board numbers are not available.  The HDMI Addon board is a 2nd monitor port.

Dell Does not typically allow such options after the fact.

The port opening is break away.

Hi Speedstep,

Thanks for the reply - sorry it took me so long to acknowledge it.

Yes it is the HDMI Add-on board that I am after.  Or "HDMI Connector Board" as the "Dell OptiPlex 9020M Owner's Manual" calls it.

Very disappointed if dell won't (usually) supply the part if it was not originally ordered with it, as I got it from the outlet and did not have the option of adding this at the time.

I'm still trying to figure out IF dell can provide this part (and associated cable) or not.

Can anyone tell me what the part numbers are?

Comments by dell staff in youtube.com/watch?v=ZGvegKKB5lA suggests contactingDell Spare Parts department but US number is provided.  But no number for UK.

Will try the US number later.

Cheers

Sean

Its a board and a cable.  You cant have the HDMI and the Serial Port or WIFI Card at the same time because they use the same spot in the case.

My internal support says there is NO HDMI CARD or board.

Its a DP to HDMI cable. I would ask CHRISM about this.

Really, I think your best option would be to get a DisplayPort to HDMI adapter.

DisplayPort is capable of transmitting sound, so you should be able to get both sound and video to your HDTV via the DisplayPort connection

http://www.amazon.com/Cable-Matters%C2%AE-Gold-Plated-DisplayPort/dp/B004C9P9TM/

This listing says it will transmit both Audio and Video, (unless there is some reason that the 9020 will not send audio over DisplayPort.

Only Displayport Plus Plus does HDMI audio and only with ACTIVE not passive Adapters. A device with dual-mode DisplayPort technology can transmit HDMI, DVI, or analog signals with the use of the appropriate adapter. DisplayPort connections symbolized by the DisplayPort logo and two plus signs indicate the dual-mode capability.

Hi Shepish, in a similar position. I have the extra DP card but now after the HDMI. Our Dell corporate account manager quoted a complete system with the HDMI & it shows 'HDMI Adapter Card, 9020M'. Explained I actually only need the card. The request has been sent to spare parts to quote. Will update you when I hear back from them

The part has 3 sets of pieces.  A cable that goes to the card, screws to hold it in, and the card itself.

No idea what any of those part numbers are.

If you are missing any of the "pieces" its not going to ever work.

The port opening is break away.

Hi Grubsy,

Thanks for the info.  I'd appreciate it if you can pass the info on once you receive it.  Being a home user I don't have any sort of account manager that I can lean on to "own" this issue.

As SpeedStep points out there are 3 distinct parts (card, cable and screws) and I will need all three to get it to work.

Hi SpeedStep,

Yes absolutely I would require all three, or at least the cable and card - I doubt the screws are specific to that application so could probably find some that would work :-)

I guess there is a chance that they have bundled them together to make an HDMI pack or bundle.  I don't understand why Dell don't offer this as a retrofit kit.

Cheers

Hi Sean,

Just for your interest. Here's what the DP option looks like. The cable says MB DP Cable. Wonder if I need a new cable too? I.e. MB HDMI Cable?

Cheers

Paul

From the pictures Im getting that WFJ0V is the part number for the display port card.

I don't see a Dell part number on the cable.

I had a call from a guy yesterday in spare parts. He said he believes he found the HDMI card and screws. Didn't see any info on the cable. He is going to quote me on the card & screws once he finds out the availability. I asked if he can try find the cable too.

I'll have another look at the cable today & take a photo of it out of the system.

Ask for the part number for everything.  If he looks for a cable he may quote the DP to HDMI cable which isn't going to work for people who don't have the INTERNAL cable.

Here is the email response I just received:

The part number is : RH40T, this has an Eta of 6-8 Weeks, we are getting this part activated in our tool to quote you, we will get back to you with a quote by Monday.

Will make sure they quote the cable too.

Here is the DP cable:

Paul, SpeedStep,

As always very useful contributions.  A bit of googling with the part number (RH40T) I found this:

http://www.cart100.com/Product/42085368129/

Which certainly looks like the correct part, so things are looking promising.  I am just hope we can get the part # for the cable (and screws) now, and that dell will let us order them.

Thanks for all the help

Cheers
