Noise

This message is to my fellow Dell brothers and sisters (I'm sending it to tech support as well). It's just something I've noticed lately.

With the increasing performance of processors comes more noise. That's understandable, but Dell machines used to be known for quietness. My 8250 is my quietest pc, but that isn't saying much. It still has a fairly loud hum. The bottom line is Dell can address noise from the engineering standpoint before they launch a model instead of after purchase. Just read how many complaints there are about fan noise with the 4550 and 8250s. I just saw the first 8300 today.

I would love to know the XPS noise level with the larger power supply and all. Who knows, it may be quieter.

My 8250 should serve me well for awhile, but I won't buy another Dell unless they start making quieter machines again. I've heard gamers say they don't care about noise, but I'm not buying that. There's nothing pleasant about fan noise. I can't wait till they figure out a noiseless solution to cpu heat dissipation. Fans aren't it.

SSGTZ,

Thank you for using the Dell Community Forum.

I agree that noisy fans are irritating. My friend bought the new 8300 system and was really impressed on how quiet the system runs. Hopefully, engineering is working on the noise issue.

Noise can be good at times, keeps the wife out of the room.

Well i have a 8300 but believe me, that beast is not quiet at all...the cpu fan after just some seconds runs at full speed all the time....don't know if the fan is broken or if the CPU is getting too hot...the problem is i'm out of guaranty so i don't really know what to do...
