Do you have the telephone modem plugged into a telephone jack? Do you still have dialup or use Fax? That's about the only use for a telephone modem. The internal phone modem is not related to your broadband modem. The modem itself might be bad. If you need a phone modem, they are cheap to replace. They don't even come on new computers anymore.

Mary G....thanks for the shout....I did change the modem to an other slot and the pc did see it.....but I did not have the drivers for the unit....I may change the system over to win 7 in which it has a dialer which requires a modem...because it is there I think it should be working!

kaschiro,
Unless Win 7 has native support for that modem you'll still need to obtain and install a driver for it to get it working.

I don't know which modem you ordered when you got your Dimension 2400 but Dell shipped three models in that system so the driver will be one of the following:

Conexant D850 56K V.9X PCI DF Modem ULD

Conexant/Asus SmartHSFi V92 56K PCI Modem

Intel 537E,v.9x,PCI,Modem
