Using a COM keyboard w/ windows XP

 Question:

Is there a way to use a COM keyboard with windows xp? I am using a COM to PS/2 attachment and I cannot get Windows to recognize it. Not a hardware install, nada.

Can you define what you mean by a COM keyboard?

To us oldtimers, COM refers to a serial port, which I've never heard of a keyboard connecting to. Do you mean an older AT type connector (round, 1/2 inch or so)?

I've never seen that done. P/S2 to serial for a mouse, yes - there are serial mouse drivers, though I wonder if XP supports that.

Doesn't the Dim 2400 have two P/S2 ports, one for keyboard, one for mouse, like most all other PCs these days?

No, I'm using a PS/2 to Serial adapter to add another PS/2 port.

Yes it does but I have 2 Keyboards I'd Like to use at the same time. (A Dell Quietkey and a Cherry Standardw/ credit card swipe and a CueCat on that one also)

I dont know if it can be done but I will try.

You might try one of the USB to 2 PS2 adapters - normally used to connect a mouse and keyboard, but might work. Also, look for a keyboard switch - these sometimes were used when two people alternately used the same computer and didn't want to move. Kind of like a reverse KVM. Actually, a simple manually switched KVM should work, hooked up in reverse.
