Video card for Vostro 200

Hi

We have a Vostro 200 which works fine using everyday applications. However, when playing games such as World of Warcraft et al the system fan runs at full tilt and is very noisy. I'm guessing that need a beefier graphics card for games. As the PC is a slimline I think we would need a low height card. Can anyone recommend a graphics card that would fit the PC?

The CPU fan is running as it's overheating due to gaming.  Gaming is "worst case" and puts the most load on a PC.   The Vostro 200 was designed as a "small business" PC and not a "gaming" PC.  Dell makes "gaming PC's" - the Dell Alienware line.

A better video card will not help the CPU overheating.

So, a better graphics card would not take some of the load off of the CPU?

"Better" is a relative term.  What graphics card do you currently have in your "Vostro 200 - Slim Tower" system?  Is it the integrated graphics, one of the optional graphics cards sold with the system (8300gs, 8600gt, 7300le, x1300 pro, hd 2400 pro, hd 3650 pro, hd 2600 xt, hd 2400 pro, hd 2400 xt), or something else that you may have installed.  Also, if you are looking for a performance increase you might want to mention the processor that you have in this system.

Have you checked for dust buildup inside the case and on the cooling fins of the CPU cooler? As for a noisy fan, there are aftermarket cooling solutions available , like the Rosewill 92mm I used in my Vostro 220s: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835200034 You will also need a set of spring-dampened screws, such as those in the Thermalright Bolt-thru kit: http://www.amazon.com/THEMRALRIGHT-BTK-LGA775-REV-2-BOLT-THRU-REV/dp/B003AK6R3G

This should work and is power-efficient: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102934
