XPS 420 and 425w power supply

As of today, the only way to get the 425w power supply is to order the High Powered Performance Bundle. This is the only bundle that has the 768MB nVidia 8800GTX video card.

thats true, I didn't think of that.

I wish my service tag showed that I am an xps user instead of a dimension user.

Not sure why all the confusion about which power supply comes with which system.

The description of the system I configured states..

Ultimate Entertainment
Dual DVD and Blazing 3D Graphics

425Watt Power Supply Included!

This is also the system that comes with the 8800GT

Dell/Chris:

Does this similar system on the Dell.ca website also have the 425W PSU?

This is the 3rd of the 3 Canadian offers:

zoomer12,

Since it offers the 8800 GTX, yes.

I have the 425W PSU and the 8800GTX.. The GTX was given to me as a new computer warranty replacement, because of no supply of the GT to send as exact replacement.

Chris, I am kind of wondering about the PSU capability. Doing research on this, Nvidia (the mfr of the card that was sent to me), claims that this Video card should actually have a 430W.. Granted, it is only 5W off, but is this going to cause a problem with me adding more ram, a second HD, a Sound card, or another DVD Drive?

Is there something out there that will show me my total power consumption so I would know if I (or we) need to get a larger PSU?

Thanks

Dell underrates their power supply units. Do not worry about it!

the 425W supply will handle the card with power to spare. This is the same supply that Dell uses in the ultimate configuration with the GTX cards. So there will be no issue.

Hi...
This question is for Dell-ChrisM or anyone else that may have the answer.

This pertains to the Ultimate Entertainment Selection path.

If you go to the Canadian link     http://configure.dell.com/dellstore/config.aspx?c=ca&CS=cadhs1&l=en&OC=42024V_R_1E    and select the QX9650 Processor with the 768MB nVidia 8800GTX Graphics Card, there are no warnings issued.

If you go to the USA link     http://configure.us.dell.com/dellstore/config.aspx?c=us&cs=19&l=en&oc=DXCWQJ3&s=dhs      and select the QX9650 Processor with the 768MB nVidia 8800GTX Graphics Card, there is a Compatibility Warning issued saying a 425W Power Supply is required with Select Processors.
( SpecificallyThe Video Card selection requires a 425W power supply available only with select processors).  This implies that one must select a different Processor other than the QX9650 or the 425W PS is not available for the QX9650.  And when you do, there is no warning issued.

The question:  On the USA site, can one order the QX9650 Processor and the 768MB nVidia 8800GTX Graphics Card and receive the 425W Power Supply?  And do you ignore the Compatibility Warning at Check-out?

Thanks,
RM

well now that the 8800gt 512 is not offered any xps420 besides the highest one, i was wondering if this was a power supply issue of some sort? i wouldn't be able to understand why it was removed. the power supply that the 8800gt requires is not the one that we get. i was wondering if they are going to upgrade it to us who have purchased the 8800gt on the lower models. i just purchased mine a 3 weeks ago and i think that is pretty unfair.
