XPS 730 Air cooled lower chassis shroud missing, cpu cooling assembly fan squaking
Hello,
I received my XPS 730 yesterday, and I opened it up, and I noticed that there is only one fan shroud covering the top fron chassis fan, the bottom front chassis fan is exposed, but if you look at the pictures in the users manual, there is a shround over both fans, top and bottom, in both air and h2c.
Mine is air cooled. I was wondering if it is missing or not supposed to be there? I would want one installed since I find it is very unprofessional to sell a 2.5K system and not put all the parts in it.
Also, my cpu cooling assembly fan is squaking, could the assembly be replaced?
Thanks!

Well it looks like I'm getting my shroud today! It's at the local DHL Depot. Insanely fast shipping since it was only shipped out yesterday. I'll post pictures and the part # as well. (hopefully that shipped the right part)
Update: DHL made a delivery attempt to the WRONG HOUSE!! I had to call them and complain. Supposedly they're going to try to deliver it again today. I have my doubts. Anyone else have problems with DHL? This isn't the first time I've had problems with them.
Update: I finally got it! It's very easy to install. The Part # is MX281. Description is:
ASSY;SHRD;FRT;FAN;XPS
There is no light from the motherboard LED's showing through the front panel grill anymore. It looks more professional. Also seems a touch quieter.
I'm a happy camper :)

sikatcebu28,
When you install it, make sure the top and bottom edges on the right side of the shroud fit into the slots. It's hard to see in the picture, but you'll get the idea.

+1!
Great posts and pictures, atbglenn!
I've seen the innards of two 730s, neither of which had this shroud. I had vaguely wondered about this given the existence of the upper shroud but never pursued it.
Ten minutes on web chat with technical support and my shroud is on its way.
Thanks again, and also to Chris.
Now to try and determine if it is cosmetic only or if it actually makes a difference...

Chris,
Just how many XPS730's were delivered without the lower fan shroud? It seems a lot more than a few since 4 or more people here mentioned it. Dell had to know the part was missing. I just don't understand why we weren't notified. As far as I'm concerned, this is totally unacceptable......

It would be tough to describe the shroud to someone when you don't have pictures. Thanks for the effort and passing on your knowledge.
And thanks for letting us know the purpose of the shroud, Chris.

ElkWapiti,
I spent almost one hour trying to describe the lower shroud to the tech. It was extremely frustrating to say the least, but it was well worth it. In less than 24 hours it was delivered to my door. Besides looking cool, and more like a finished product, there is now no light from the motherboard LED's visible though the from grill anymore. I think it makes the case lighting look a lot better. Also it seems to mute the north bridge fan noise slightly.

Hey,
I got mine today too, as Atbglenn said, it makes it look more finished, and I also think it does make it a little more quiet.
I dont know if thats makes and difference, but it would seem that the shroud directs the airflow onto the cpu assembl.
Atbglenn, you wiring looks organised, did you rewire it yourself or did yours come like that?

I straightened the wiring harnesses a bit, but it basically came fairly neat to begin with. I agree with you that it directs the flow of air better to the CPU assembly. Not that it really needed it :) Did you notice the lack of internal light bleeding through the front grill?

alexkolb,
GREAT! I'm glad you like it. I hope everyone reads this post and checks their XPS730 to make sure they have thier lower fan shroud! I have a feeling there are plenty out there without one......
