I currently have the HD 4850 512MB video card. I am looking to upgrade to a HD 4870x2.

That's a pretty nice card.  I'd upgrade the video card before the ram.  The 920 really doesn't need to be overclocked so if you can wait until you have the card, I'd suggest waiting and purchasing the RAM after the new card because you'll get more of a performance increase from the GPU.

Will the Dell 730x MBs support the DDR3-1600 speed now?

The 730x will support DDR3-1600 and I've been using the Corsair since I received my 730x back in February.  I'm going to wait a few months and try the Corsair Dominator DDR3-2000 memory.  It operates at the same voltage so I doubt I'll have a problem.

Ooooh!  You're talking about the Dell Support Center.  You can find that here - Dell Support Center Download

HI PH3N0M

No im not talkign about Dell Support Center.  The program is from Creative.  Its was called "Creative Auto Update" and it came preinstalled on the system.  But the Dell Resource Disk doesnt have it on it, and the creative disk that came with the system says "no compatatble software" when I put it in.  If i try and d/l it form Creatives website is says its not a program supported on Vista.  So I just dont know what to do.  Perhaps if Chris is reading he can help me.

@lmele

Thank you very much!  My connection speed in now 1GBps!

Have you tried sending him a private message about the issue?  That might be a little faster.

Go to Internet Speed Test and run a speed test and then post your results.

I have a question about my video card. I have a Radeon 4870x2 and would like to know if I can run my  output to my 1080p TV along with my 2007WFP monitor at 1680x1050 at the same time. If so, how would I adjust the two resolutions?

Your t.v. would automatically run at the 1080p resolution without you needing to do anything.

PH3NOM,

Thank you for the advice I have been running this for a few minutes and no problems so far.

I decieded to go with 170 for my CPUBC1k. Try small and baby step my way up up up up lol.

I adjusted the timing to 7-7-7-18 from 7-7-7-20 and changed DDR3 voltage from 1.55 to 1.5V.

My core voltage is 1.312V is that in normal? I noticed on your CPUz shot that your core voltage was 1.120V.

The temp on the side is a little high because my room is warm today.

I will test this setup with COD5 soon and make sure it is all working.

Thanks again  for all your input.

Edit** Why does CPUz sometimes show a multiplier of 21 for the 920? Thought they only can do a multiplier of 20.

Hi.

Next to the web-updater is a manual download section.  The program you are looking for is in one of those packages.  I do not know which one.  I installed all of the manual updates and the AutoUpdate was installed.  You are correct the web auto update does not work with Vista. Hope this helps

When the multiplier is set at 20 and Speed Step is enabled, it increased the multiplier by 1 and increases the voltage as needed.  Glad I could help.  Let me know if you need further assistance.

I was thinking the same thing.  When I downloaded the latest driver update(s), it automatically installed the Auto Updater and I'm running on Windows 7.

The OC is working like a champ. Love the low temps during COD5. H2C is the way to go.

I have an unrelated question

i have a 730x running windows 7 rc1 64 bit.

with raid 0 raptors

i just bought a new SSD drive and I need to update the firmware. this requires me to plug in the drive and run some program. can i just plug it into any sata slot i have open?

i was reading about the requirement being that "The F/W upgrade program cannot work on AHCI/SCSI/RAID/PATA to SATA Bridge host" for my SSD

what does that mean?

Someone needs to make a direct link to page 53 or 54......  It is ridiculous to press next at least 25 times to get this far.  Btw, I recently ordered a Dell XPS 730x.  Let me know what you guys think?

SYSTEM COLOR Aluminum with Clearcoat Chassis
PROCESSOR Intel® Core™ i7-920 (2.66GHz, 8MB L3 Cache)
OPERATING SYSTEM Genuine Windows Vista® Home Premium (English) Service Pack 1 64-bit
SECURITY Norton Internet Security 2008 ion 15-months
MEMORY 6GB Tri-Channel DDR3 at 1066MHZ (3x2GB DIMM)
HARD DRIVE 750GB - SATA-II, 3GB/S, 7200RPM, 16MB Cache
OPTICAL DRIVE Dual Drives: Blu-ray Disc (BD) Burner (Writes to DVD/CD/BD) and DVD-ROM
VIDEO CARD nVidia GeForce GTX 285 1024MB
FLOPPY & MEDIA READER Dell 19-in-1 Media Card Reader with Bluetooth 2.0
MODEM & WIRELESS No Modem Requested
SOUND Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium
KEYBOARD Dell USB Consumer Multimedia Keyboard
MOUSE Premium Optical USB Mouse
Cooling Option Copper base Heat Sink with aluminum fins

I already have a 64bit and 32bit ultimate license which brings me to the question.  Would I be able to install 32bit (OEM from previous dell xps 420) without issues on this system since originally 64bit is installed.  A lot of my programs dont work on 64bit (also less support out there) so thats why i was thinking of 32 bit.  What do you guys think?  Also how much memory would I be able to use?  If I am not able to use entire 6gb would programs running still be able to take advantage of extra ram, lets say 2gb if 4gb used by windows?

It also makes me laugh that people are overclocking this cpu.  At this point in time, I really dont see the need.  When the programs get more intense then it makes sense to do it.  Why shorten the life of this critical component?

All suggestions and advices are welcomed.  Thank you.  :emotion-2:
