XPS 9000 and XPS 8000 delivery delay issues

The previous thread that mentioned issues of the Studio XPS 9000 and XPS 8000 being delayed or having extensive build times was locked. After a months time I had ordered mine (9/26) and it was supposed to ship on (10/22), after two delays it finally shipped out and will be received today (10/28). If you have any issues or have found any solutions to help get your systems sooner please help others that have also been in this predicament. It would seem the main issue is due to the high demand of I5 and I7 processors and parts being backordered. If you call customer service after a delay often times they will upgrade you to one day shipping, even though it took them three days to actually get it out.

I ordered my Studio 8000 on November 13.  Original delivery estimate was for December 2.  It has been delayed twice and is now December 16.  I contacted customer service multiple times before the original shipping date after seeing this thread.  They all assured me all parts were in to make the computer on time.  I have been out of the country on business so I have had to use email to talk to Dell.  I have have asked for an explanation in three seperate emails to Dell, but there is no response.  They acknowledge they got the email, but are not answering them.

This is extremely poor customer service.  They have not even given complimentary 1 day shipping to try to get to me as soon as possible.  It is unfortunate that Dell is treating their customers this way.  I have been a loyal customer for quite a long time, but I am starting to have second thoughts.

What do you think group?

I have another item to add to the list.  The chassis itself (which may or may not include the motherboard), so even if we could reconfigure, there's isn't a skeleton to hang the components inside...

My system, ordered 11/13/09, initial estimated del. date 12/4, next del. date 12/11, current del. date 12/18:

Studio XPS 8000
Studio XPS 8000, Intel Core i5-750 processor(8MB Cache, 2.66GHz)
8GB Dual Channel DDR3 SDRAM at 1066MHz - 4 DIMMs
Dell Studio Consumer Multimedia Keyboard
No Monitor
nVidia GeForce GTS240 1024MB GDDR3
1TB - 7200RPM, SATA 3.0Gb/s, 16MB Cache

Edit:  This was in response to one e-mail to customer service with a response within 12 hours.

Received the official "Delay" notice this morning pushing my delivery date to 12/22 (original order date was 11/19).. I need to email or phone them to continue processing the order (I did both), but I also started a formal complaint to the Better Business Bureau.. I talked to a customer rep yesterday and was told once again that nothing from my order is on hold or backordered and it's just a matter of too many orders.. That would sound logical if it wasn't for the fact that certain orders placed for the same configuration and placed after I placed mine, have already been shipped and received by the customers.. Also, I was thinking of canceling the order and getting the HP e9250t but after reading that those have had problems, I might have to keep looking somewhere else.. ResignedToWait, can you point me to the forum that was talking about the constant lockups on the HP?.. Thanks..

Update:  Called customer service and talked with one of their supervisors and was told the order would be upgraded to 2nd business day shipping.. I asked for an email confirming this but was told no email would be sent but I was given a case number which I can refer to in case I have any more problems.. We'll see what comes of this, probably nothing but I have everything documented (have lots of free time at work :)..), if and when I need it..

I cancelled mine for an XPS8000. Getting an Acer now. Cash on delivery. No Delivery, No cash. I think Dell's lack of incentive (ie, we have already given them the money) makes them sloppy here. If it was changed to COD, then they will really have to buck up.

I canceled my Dell order for an XPS9000 on 12/2 after three delays and decided to order an HP e9280t instead. The issues with the freeze ups seem to be resolved according to the HP forums. Get this - my order was shipped yesterday and will be delivered tomorrow.

anyway, was sharing this thread to a no of pple thinking of buying PC.  All have changed their mind about getting from Dell ever.... guess Dell will be losing more customer now.. words are spreading.. hopefully Dell will wake up once they see their sales figure dip...

Congrats..

But this is what I don't understand.  I was on the phone for about 15 minutes last night and kept asking why my order is taking up to 6 weeks on their estimated date.  I even asked her if there was a part that was being delayed and if I could upgrade/downgrade to speed up the process.  She kept saying over and over, you order popular item, we don't have no supply issue.  We have all parts it's that you order popular item.  I order the xps 8000 on the 19th and estimated delivery is 12/29.  So you order yours on 11/29 and it's already shipped.  This doesn't add up in my book.

I agree with both you guys-bordysmite and yk332.  It definitly does not add up.  I would be super upset if I was you guys.  Believe me if I now get a "delay" email after being told it was ready for shipment I will be livid.  Honestly, i still fully expect to be delayed.  I am hopeful after talking to the rep today but I don't really believe them.  I will believe it when I see it.  I had to really pin down the rep on the phone.  Initially, he just wanted to give me the "it will be there on or before the 15th" line.  So i then said "to make that date it would have to be ready to go today or tomorrow".  I also mentioned another rep had told me it would ship today or tomorrow.  That is when he then said it was in final preparation and would be here by the 15th.  Maybe he was just placating me.  We'll see.

I hope they do ship it for you let me know what happens - I was told on the 7th that it should be shipping tomorrow they didnt say it was in "final preparation for delivery" so maybe they will be true to there word, but by me they said it should ship tomorrow and they dont see anymore delays and guess what  the next day I got a delay email with my new edd 12/21.

I ordered the 18th and my new edd is the 12/21 it looks like there not doing this in order....

I ordered my XPS 8000 on 12/5/2009.  When I was making the order, it was estimated that I would get it on 12/18/2009.  After my order processed, it changed the estimated shipping date to 1/5/2009.  The shipping info on my PC still says it is in production, and has been for 5 days.  Has anybody who ordered it on the same day or near the same day as me experienced the same problem?  Thanks.

n2speed - the HP forum is at http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Lockups-Freezes-Hangs/Elite-e9150t-Feezes-Locks-up/td-p/93815/page/328

i think they have stopped selling that system tho, and as Labida123 said the newer systems are good.  I just went to the HP site and priced a system similar to the XPS and it would cost me about $200 more for what i think is less of a PC bundle system.

Slightly off topic-  Does anyone have a good handle on the difference in performance between the i7-920 and the i7-860?  Or will i even see a difference?  The PC will be used for PC games and CAD work.

I ordered the i7-860 but wasn't really sure which to get.

Ordered a Studio XPS 8000 December 1st ... estimated shipping is January 4th. Had they mentioned this during the purchasing process (unless I missed it somewhere), I wouldn't have bothered and would instead have bought locally.

I'm starting to think my order will get pushed back, too.  I ordered the XPS 9000 on 11/27 and the delivery date states 12/17.  It's still tagged as "In Production", so I'll make sure to update this thread if anything changes.
