XPS 9000 and XPS 8000 delivery delay issues

The previous thread that mentioned issues of the Studio XPS 9000 and XPS 8000 being delayed or having extensive build times was locked. After a months time I had ordered mine (9/26) and it was supposed to ship on (10/22), after two delays it finally shipped out and will be received today (10/28). If you have any issues or have found any solutions to help get your systems sooner please help others that have also been in this predicament. It would seem the main issue is due to the high demand of I5 and I7 processors and parts being backordered. If you call customer service after a delay often times they will upgrade you to one day shipping, even though it took them three days to actually get it out.

I must be dreaming. Now there is a big sale on XPS 8000 on Dell's main page. They can't ship ours, yet they have a big sale event going for the same machines.

No you're not dreaming.  I saw it too.  Still more expensive than my price.  Funny thing is I chatted with sales rep and she told me they don't sell the XPS 8000 anymore.  I told her I have one in my cart right now.   This company is pretty screwed up.

This company is pretty screwed up.

Sure it is otherwise we had our PC after waiting for two months. I can not even imagine that it has been almost two months.

What a waste.

With the XPS 8000 order I saved around$500 and then when I cancelled and matched up the XPS 8100 which still in production I saved around $ 700 with next day shipping and all that. I got a good deal but I have to cancel since i bought one off the eBay for even a better deal.

I know different people got different deals while the 8000 was available in November and December, but the one showing up in the signature event is a better deal than I got at the end of December.  The one showing today includes a monitor (only standard 20", but it is a monitor) and wireless card, those were both upgrades at the time I ordered.  Also, this includes 6GB of RAM, I stuck with the 4GB when I ordered because I could get memory on my own to upgrade it cheaper.   So, mine, with i7-860, 4 GB RAM, wireless and no monitor was $936. This one with i7-860, 6GB RAM, wireless and monitor is $988.

I ordered on 12/30 and am still waiting for an EDD of 1/25 (no delays yet).  The one offered today shows a ship date of 2/2 which would translate into an EDD of 2/9 (they appear to add 7 days for delivery on their EDD).

I now need to purchase another computer for my business, so I think I will order one of these today just to see what happens. If it works it is a lot cheaper than the price of an 8100 with similar configuration. And, since I have been operating for years with computers with Celeron processors and 1 GB of RAM, even the 8000 is a big upgrade!

I to noticed the  8000 on the site . Makes me so mad to see this wen i been waiting since begining of December for mine.

Somethings i notice on the 8000 they have on sale an the new 8100 .  the 8100 has no option for sound card upgrades an the 8000 they have now wont me select a gtx260 and soundblaster x fi extreme.  gives a conflict error . also wen i put a computer together on HP using the same 2 parts  it get an error to.  my computer i configured back in december has both these parts in it.. so it seems they were selling computers they cant even put together an instead of just telling me they keep delaying it   . well i think  thats why its delayed anyways . maybe im wrong but oh well .  but for anyone that has 8000 on delay with a GTX260 and a X Fi Exteme . might to consider looking into that .

so today i just canceled it an reorder the new 8000 on sale same spec just no x fi extreme.  hopfully no delay this time, this last chance im giving Dell . then goin somewere else for a computer .

ctorre1-

I agree with your observations.  If you go through the specs bit by bit, you will find there is a laundry list of parts that are not offered on the "Signature Event" XPS 8000 that were options on the "discontinued" 8000.  Most of them are also not offered on the XPS 8100. Dell apparently thought they could get these parts when they started offering the XPS 8000 last October.  The part that bothers me is that they kept selling them when they found out that they couldn't get the parts. So, now it appears that they are delaying and delaying, hoping we will all cancel our orders so they never have to admit that they were selling systems they were unable to build.

Why can't they just come clean, admit their error and offer to cancel all undelivered XPs 8000 orders, or, offer to configure an 8100 as close as possible for the same price? I guess there are a number of alternatives, but, the bottom line is: why keep people waiting for something they will never get? It just makes us madder and madder and is killing their reputation.

Hi, i'm in the uk and my XPS 8000 was ordered on 30Dec and delivered on 12Jan, it was shipped from the european factory in Poland. Dell have also now introduced the 8100 here too but it is about £110 more to configure a similar system when compared with the 8000 even though a 2TB hard disk is included as standard in the price. It's impossible to keep on top as Dell deals, prices and specification change almost weekly.

If you're tired of waiting for your xps 8000, call Dell and ask to be switched over to an xps 8100 with the same specs and cost.

I got my 24 inch monitor in today from Dell. Hopefully the machine will ship next week, or the week after. The EDD has been changed or updated.

Has ANYONE received an XPS 8000 from Dell in the past few weeks?  If so, when did you order?

Hi, I ordered an XPS 8000 on Dec 26, and it is the first time I ordered from Dell. I did do some research before ordering, cuz I've never had complete faith in the "just-in-time" thing. Then I read many posts about how Dell is delaying the customers' orders. Even after reading so many complaints, I still ordered; because only Dell offers what I want (in Canada, there aren't that  many options for the i7 CPU at major retail stores).

On Jan 4, I received a phone call from Dell, telling me that my order is being processed. Then my PC has been in the "In Production" phase ever since.

My estimated ship date is Jan 22, just one week from now. I haven't received any e-mails or phone calls for delaying my order, and I SERIOUSLY  HOPE NOT.

I'm just wondering if Dell Canada's delay issues are just as bad as Dell USA. Any Canadians here?
