XPS Screech Of Death (SoD)

Freecken Screech again today , the Beta Driver did not work.  NEXT. There will never be a Fix Chris_M.. Im so peved at this screech .

Installed the Beta drivers on Saturday, and today was my first day working on the PC, and about 5.30 PM, I received the first SOD I've heard in about two weeks. It happened as I clicked on a new track in iTunes, and lasted about 15 seconds... Going to leave the Beta drivers installed until I have one more SOD, just to check the frequency of occurences. The other thing to report about the drivers, is that within (the only) game I play (Track Mania United), the sound is a bit messed up. The main speaker sound seems to be missing, although all the other sounds are fine. This was not the case before installing the beta. I will disable all audio enhancements and see if this is still the case. But it looks like I'll be rolling back to the older Creative drivers in the near future, as I managed to get 2 weeks without a SOD with them..

It seems to work alright with Company of Heroes and now EVE online.....I play music through iTunes while playing EVE...

I have watched 2 movies on this thing and no SoD. I'm expecting one shortly though.

The only permanent fix I have found is installing the YOUPPAX Drivers.

I have never heard of YOUPPAX drivers before. It would be extremely helpful for you to provide more information in your posts regarding possible solutions to the issue. Just saying that you have drivers that have solved your problem doesnt do us any good.

Use Driver Cleaner Pro to remove the original Creative drivers (in safe mode).

Download the ISO image (second link below) and mount with your preferred virtual drive.

Run the PAXSetup.exe file.

One the initial PAX setup runs, a movie will load (short little animation for X-Fi). It will ask you to reboot. Don't reboot yet. Patience Daniel-san.

Move the PAX installer window over a little bit to see the X-Fi installer. (I had to anyways...)

Run it like a normal Install Shield. (ie; next, next, next)

Install whichever drivers you want to. I only put the minimum on mine.

Now you can reboot.

Also, don't know why certain parties (whether the moboard manufacturer, or the sound card manufacturer) cannot get this right.

When I get home today I'm going to download and Scan for viruses. I'm Running MacAffee (go figure). If anyone has AVG or Norotn, even if you dont have the issue, please download and scan just so we know its safe.

I've always been as strong supporter of third party software developer; excluding hardware drivers. I love my new linux laptop that I have, I love TP media players, I just cannot bring myself to use drivers not made by developers for their hardware.

On a slightly happier note, I havent had a screech in a couple of days (although I will admit I havent been doing much on the computer; been getting linux up and running.

I was the same way, but I scanned the ISO as well, and have had the drivers running on my box for almost a year now with no screeches. Hope it works for you. We fought this issue last year, before the motherboard upgrade, and had no luck. I did not take any chances with the Dell or the creative drivers. After the motherboard upgrade, I used the youp-pax 2007 and never looked back. I'm not bashing you, or anyone, just giving you some facts and (hopefully) some assistance if you need it. I am a veteran of the SOD... lol

Creative released new X-FI drivers today  July 30/08 version 2.18.0004.

this driver install is a long process , be patient,  the driver updates the cards firmware , Creative Driver Installed on my XPS 720 , Dell Branded Xtremegamer
