migrating to another SAN (and back)
hi there,
We need to move our equallogic ps4000 from raid 5 to 50. We use 3 ESXi servers.
To help with this we have borrowed a SAN. My outline plan is:-
- Get both arrays on same firmware level
- Format loan SAN in raid 50 and add to newly created storage pool.
- Move existing LUNs into new storage pool (this should be seemless to ESXi right?)
- Remove original SAN
- Reformat as RAID 50 and re-add to group
- Move luns back onto it.
- Remove loan SAN and give back
Does this plan sound ok and are there any issues I should watch out for.
Obviously the data is very important and I don't want to make any mistakes!

Hmmm?
- Place your SAN in a pool for testing and waiting until configuration is finished
- Test if ESXi hosts can access to a test volume.
- Move new EQL to the existing pool
- Evacuate the member and Groupmanager will move all volumes to your new one
No downtime, no mouse clicking like mad... just a simple evacuating and watching the progressbar :) After that reconfigure your existing EQL and perform the same again.
