Need help configuring replication for SRM install

Hi guys,

I tried searching on this but got an error so please be gentle if it's already been posted/answered :)

I wish to setup SRM and utilise the replication on our arrays.

Prod site:

LAN subnet: 172.16.2.x

VMWare ESXi 5.1 hosts (Dell R620s)
2x PS4100 members grouped (iSCSI group IP: 192.168.150.2)
2x PowerConnect 6224 stacked for iSCSI

MPLS WAN connected, 10MBit fiber.

DR site:

LAN subnet: 172.16.4.x

VMWare ESXi 5.1 hosts (Mix of older Dell servers)
1x PS4100 (iSCSI address of 192.168.151.100)
1x PowerConnect 6224 (iSCSI)

My question is:
For ABR replication to work, does the replication traffic run over the iSCSI network, or can it be routed via the LAN somehow?

Thanks

Don,

Im implementing a setup with 2 main sites that replicate to one another using VMware SRM and EQL replication.

Can the iSCSI replication traffic be send accross an IP VPN ? Because the use of Jumbo frames can not be guaranteed end to end? Can I tell my EQLs to send replication traffic with MTU of 1500 while normal operation with ESXi hosts with jumbo frames? Or does the trafic needs to be fragmented by a router in the LAN before going over the WAN or should the EQL on both ends just not use jumbo frames at all? Whats the impact on performance then though?

Is there any best practice/guideline regarding EQL replication over different WAN connections (IP VPN, MPLS, ..) ? Are there any guidelines, papers on replication changed data calculation in regards to VMs? Things to exclude like page files and how to deal with them on the other site, Windows settings to reduce changed data (last access attribute), .... other possibilities like minimizing the EQL data block size?  Any things Im missing, I think there must be a few at this time...

Cheers

K
