Help moving Data to new Group
Setup:
2 * PS5000 4.2Tb of storage.
Is PS5000 bought start of last year than additonal addeded 6 months later. This was put in as a seperate group.
So I have two groups of storage, with 1 member in each group.
I am now getting a PS6500x of 21tb.
Each SAN at present had various Volumes shared out to 4 ESX 4 hosts. There is also about 1tb of volumes of RAW disk distributed to various servers.
What I'd like to do is consolidate all these volumes on both SANS into a new Group that I create, with the introduction of this new PS6500.
I understand if I add one of the original SAN's to the group I may have to re-initalise the array, thereby losing all the data. So, would I be able to instead add each SAN (PS5000) as a replica partner to the new PS6500? Than copy that data across that way?

Hey Shoeshopboy, welcome to the TechCenter & Congrats on the new PS6500! Sorry for the delay in response... I polled some of our internal experts to make sure I was on the right track.... here's what they had to say:
"Option 2 is less disruptive, and the good news is that you do not have to create new volumes, just move them from the pool with the PS5000 to the pool with the PS6500 while the applications stay online. Just be sure to upgrade the PS5000 firmware before you add th PS6500 to the group."

Thanks for the update.
Looks like we will be going through with option 2 in a couple of weeks time.
Updating the firmware on our Equalogics this weekend, in preparation for delivery the new PS6500. I'll report back on how it all went.shoeshopboy

Just an update.
Got the new PS6500 last week, and it's all going well. (apart from the failed drive..)
Added it to our first group, created a new pool, than moved all the volumes to this new pool. Set up repliation partnership with the other PS5000, and have now begun to replicate that data over. Should be all complete by the weekend.
