I have assumed that 2 hosts connected to a SAN cannot both access the same volume via ISCSI at the same time. Is this true? Is there an alternative?
Also what redundant options are available: Both the PDC and BDC would need to stay up all the time. We would either need a special shared IP on the secondary NICs that would kick in if one server went down, or we'll need to host this box off some other server.

As for the second question, host redundancy across sites can go in several directions, depending on what you are trying to do. Availability requirements, application, OS, bandwidth, distance, and more are all key factors in that decision. From my AIX days we used HACMP/XD to watch for hiccups & then take over the IP...
