MD3000i cross generation upgrade utility
Hey guys, I just got an MD3000i, with firmware version 06.70.15.60. I've been trying to upgrade it to a gen2 firmware, using the Cross Generation Upgrade Utility, to version 07.35.22.60, but I have been unsuccesful.
I've opened a case with Dell (have gold support on the unit), but it's taking quite a while. I want to ask this way as well, and get the answer out on the internet.
What happens is that the firmware 'downloads' to the unit succesfully, but I get an error when activating the new firmware. The last lines of the log show:
[22-dec-2008 17:24:52] [TIL-SAN-01] [SUPPORT_SERVICES] [DownloadAndActivate] [0h 6m 13s]
download completed successfully
[22-dec-2008 17:24:52] [TIL-SAN-01] [array data capture] [capture storage array data]
Storage array data collection in progress
[22-dec-2008 17:25:11] [TIL-SAN-01] [SUPPORT_SERVICES] [DownloadAndActivate]
activation failed
I've upgraded from 06.70.15.60 to 06.70.17.60 succesfully, and then tried to upgrade. No succes.
Now i've tried a lot: clearing firmware, put other in (the A06 from the site is the same as the one that comes with the cross gen upgrade tool: C:\Program Files (x86)\Dell\MD Storage Manager\upgrade\cfw\RC_07352260_exmoor_mercury_1532.dlp) , power cycling the unit, deleting all disk groups, having all iscsi cables disconnected, etc. Always same error.
Does anyone have any ideas? By the way, it's in my testlab, so I can still trash all volumes..
(I actually wanted to have the unit tested and operational with the new >2TB lun functionality before Christmas, so I can use the Christmas days to migrate 4TB of virtual machines ;) )

I almost don't have any 32-bit machines anymore :( And by the way, I am not 100% sure this is what caused the update to fail, but I cannot test more scenario's now :)

I'm about to add a MD1000 each to my two MD3000i, and noted that the recommendations are to upgrade a whole lot of things, among them firmware. I've read a lot of different ways to do this, but they differ and therefore I'm unsecure of the procedure.
For example, where do I find the "MD3000i cross generation upgrade utility"?
There is a "MD3000i Configuration Utility" on the Resource CD, is that it, or how shall I go along? Tips welcome!
