Thanks in Advance..

I reply to the question, if still someone is watching this thread and is in need of the documentation.

I got it working and did set up an github account for an easier documentation. https://github.com/AC7RNsphnHVbyT4/ibm-tape-drive-automatic-standalone

SUMMARY

  • Set all DIP Switches on the drive to off.

  • Connect the RS-422-USB Adapter as follows: - TxD+ → Red - TxD- → Brown - RxD+ → Yellow - RxD- → Orange - GND → Black

  • Send the Package to the drive: \x02\x00\x36\xAC\x01\x00\x00\x00\x01\xFF\xF2\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\xE6\x03

  • Drive restarts and goes online to SCSI or Fibre Channel automatically.

Great work

I was searching this process to convert my LTO3 from lib to standalone. I haven't noticed DIP switches on mine but your tutorial will help, thanks

Hello, this works for other brands, I have an hp lto-6 that my pc doesn't recognize. Also do you know how to access the console through the ethernet port?

@alperazzoli I too would like to understand how to move lto7 drives to standalone. Any advice would be most welcome please.
