It is a Fiber channel connectivity and I zoning has been done, I did mapping and masking for the host on DMX-4 frame.

need more details. What type of storage ? type of connectivity (FC/iSCSI/NFS) ? Do you get errors ..anything ?

so when you go into ESX and try to add storage ..what happens ?

Nothing I see the LUN under both the HBA's but can not format them or use them at all as they are not seen as storage.

cool, so once you went to Storage Adapters in the Hardware panel and clicked Rescan, you were able to see the LUN under disk/lun list ? But when you go to Configuration tab and select Add storage, disk/Lun for storage type ..that's where you don't see your LUN ?

Yes you are right. I asked one of our architects from EMC and he was refering to the SPC2 flag too. I guess I will have to enable it as it is not enabled right now.

Do you think emc141648 needs to be changed as at the end in the notes section it says "This case should stay with EMC until the QLogic HBA sees the devices first. From there, it is a VMware issue".

any thoughts on this one??

what address on the FA is this device mapped to? I remember a while back you had to change a setting in VMware so that it would rescan for devices that are mapped at higher LUN addresses.

i might be a silly one ..you did not forget to run symmask refresh after you were done masking your devices ?

I do not think there is an issue with the LUN addresses. I used the addresses starting 002 and up.

We enabled the SPC2 bit on all the ports but still have the same issue. :-):-) This server is dedicated to VMware servers and that is why we enabled on all the ports.

I did not forget the run symmask refresh command.

What size LUNs are being presented to ESX? Also, are the LUNs presented to this ESX host also being presented to other active ESX hosts?

I'm wondering if these particular devices are User-Not-Ready on the DMX? Might be worth requesting the PSE Lab to dial-in and have a look at the devices on the array...
