bios boot
I have a Inspiron 24 5415 All-in-One desktop. I have created a recovery flash drive. How do I get to the BIOS boot menu?

@daviesma ,
That is most likely your problem.
I had one of these old Dell AiOs for a while (mine was circa 2013 model). Certain things (like BIOS) still required use of old-school wired keyboard.

I tried it both from restart and cold power up and got no response.

@daviesma ,
You have to tap-it once-or-twice at the perfect time.
It's harder with a SSD.
I think F2 is the other Dell key, but F12 should work.

ELSE
From Windows, the easiest path is Settings → Recovery → Advanced startup → Restart now → Troubleshoot → Advanced options → UEFI Firmware Settings → Restart. That will reboot straight into BIOS/UEFI setup without needing to catch a boot key. tomsguide
You can also use a shortcut route:
Hold Shift while clicking Restart.
Then follow Troubleshoot → Advanced options → UEFI Firmware Settings → Restart. laptopmag
If you prefer a command, Windows can reboot directly into firmware with
shutdown /r /fwon many UEFI systems. Some PCs still use a manufacturer key at power-on, commonly F2, Del, F10, F12, or Esc, but the Windows route is the most reliable when you’re already logged in.daviesma

that is great if the system boots and you can get to W11. I created the recovery drive to use when the system won’t boot.
I’ve tried F12 and it doesn’t work.

Can you give me instructions to make this replacement or point me to some help with it. I was a SE on network routers for 19 years, but some guidance would be helpful.

Remove all USB dongles and try a plain-generic WIRED USB keyboard.
Get PDF service manual if you want to work inside.

I don't own a wired keyboard. Part of the reason for getting this PC was to have a wireless keyboard.

The following image indicates the location of the coin-cell battery and provides a visual representation of the removal procedure.

If nothing appears: confirm the stick is actually UEFI-bootable and FAT32; try a different USB port (rear/USB 2.0 preferred), or recreate the stick making sure the bootloader path is \EFI\Boot\Bootx64.efi for x64 systems. dell

Hmmm, my USB is 3.0 version. I've got a 16GB 2.0 drive, maybe that would work.

@daviesma I created and tried the 2.0 USB drive and it also went straight to W11. I guess I need to replace the battery. I’ll respond again as soon as I get this completed.
