BIOS Update Fails

Dell Update continues to remind me of a "critical update" for my System BIOS ( MY4N2, version 1.13.1, 3/6/2019).  However, every attempt I make to update the BIOS fails.  Laptop is working fine.  I've tried updating through Dell Update and manually through the Diagnostic Web Page/Tool.  The latter proceeds farther- downloads, shuts the PC off and then won't restart automatically.  After manual restart System Bios is not updated.

Ignore?  Or is there a solution?

You might want to read this and you decide if updating BIOS is important to you:

Good article but everyday Dell update is telling me I need to do this "critical" update on my BIOS.  Since my system is "out of warranty" Dell won't provide any support.  However, this "critical" update that won't was pushed by Dell after my warranty expired.  Not happy with the lack of support and engagement on Dell's part.

caldriver,

Click here for support options for out of warranty systems.

Helpful Video to Consider, but please be careful on updating BIOS on systems out of warranty as they're not covered:

I don't have the low battery issue.

Why is this issue out of warranty when Dell has pushed a BIOS update after after purchase and after warranty?  Doesn't Dell have an obligation to ensure that updates work properly?  The answers from the community are not specific to my issue.  #underwhelmedbyDELL

This might help you.  Dell provides a one time boot, as described above, but in addition, they usually provide an EXE bios update file you can run off from Windows.

Check for your system downloads for FW, BIOS, etc.   There should be an EXE Bios updater file available for you.  This was the only way I was able to update my very new (still in warranty) dell, which didn't update, no matter what was done, by either the system or the Warranty Service people.

I am fairly adept with computers, but I didn't really need to know anything, to make this work.  Just make sure you follow the instructions that are provided in the "view full driver details".  that link can be seen by pressing the down arrow next to the download button

Do you have Bitlocker enabled? You need to suspend it for the BIOS update.

You'll want to manually update the bios. It's the solution I've just found on my Dell Inspiron 15 5570.

Go to the dell support area, find your laptop. Under diagnostics, find the updates section and tick the 'Urgent Updates Only' box.

Find and download the latest bios update to your windows laptop.

Run the file separately. It should automatically reboot your PC and update the Bios.

I was currently experiencing the same problem, but I remember there was a check box within the Dell Update app to disable windows BitLocker. Even when checked the update still failed. I went to disable the BitLocker manually, and realized that the drive goes through a decryption process which take 3-5 minutes. The progress is identifiable through blue bar in the same menu. The update worked after I tried again after the decryption was complete.

I have the same trouble and it is really annoying. I try to buy a good laptop (expensive one) but after warranty, they push for a system BIOS update and it failed. I long time ask for help but no luck from them. Super disappointed..

Suspending Bitlocker and plugging in my laptop did the trick for me.
