Camera with half black screen

When I joined my meeting today with my camera, half the screen is black.  I did not drop or spill anything on it.  Any help would be appreciated.  My second grade students were totally thrown off and distracted by  only seeing half of me!

Welcome to the Dell Community @MariaFiant

To better assist you, the members and I would need the exact model number of your laptop/desktop???

  1. Identify your Dell:

https://www.dell.com/support/contents/us/en/04/category/product-support/self-support-knowledgebase/l...

  1. Go into your BIOS.

Power-on the system and start tapping the F2 key to enter System Setup.

  1. In Windows:

Hold down the” Windows “key and tap the “R “key.

Then type msinfo32 and hit enter.

Best regards,

U2

You can go online to onlinemictest.com and test out the webcam.

Okay, what am I missing here? I'm not understanding this as a solution, which is sad, because I have the exact same problem - this is just asking what the computer model is, right? How is finding out the model going to fix the the camera? Please help!

After some research I found that  permission needs to be given to any App that access the camera on your tablet, including the Camera App.

To check the permissions on the Camera App:

>Launch Camera App.
>From the Settings Charm, select Permissions.
>Under the Privacy option, move the slider to turn on the access.

Hope it helps.

I just resolved the same issue on my Dell Latitude 5420 laptop. It was such a simply fix!

On top of the webcam, there's a little slider button that slides across the webcam. Just make sure it's slide al the way to the left, completing opening your webcam lens. When the cover is closed, it's red, It's hard to see it. So glad this was a simply fix!!

If you don't have this Dell model, still check for a webcam cover slider button to see if that's the case in your situation, since it's so simple to text. Good luck to everyone!!

Thank you so much for this simple fix!  I thought I had managed to dislodge the camera somehow, but it was just that little slider blocking 4/5s of the camera lens.

@Surfdancer777 this is old, but THANK YOU! I had the same problem, and never once noticed that slider bar. I really thought I somehow managed to dislodge something in my laptop.
