Dell G15 Keyboard Backlight Not Functioning Properly
Dell G15 5515 Ryzen Edition
*Before all this, I hadn't changed anything from when I had last used my laptop.*
I powered it on this morning and my keyboard backlight and caps lock light suddenly won't work. To my knowledge, no updates were installed overnight.
The keyboard itself + caps lock key both function normally. Also, when I restart my computer, the backlight + caps lock light turn on, then fade off before the DELL logo appears, so I know they have the ability to work.
I went into the BIOS and made sure "Keyboard Illumination" is set to "Bright" and "Keyboard Backlight Timeout on AC/Battery" is set to "1 Minute" (they were). I also know about the keyboard backlight button on f5 and that won't turn it on, whether I use the "fn" key with it or not.
Any help is appreciated, and when replying please assume I don't know much of anything about computers, because what I do know is very niche. Thanks!

Hi,
this is indeed a weird behavior. If you depend that much on the backlight i would go like this routine:
Try to make a hard-reset including completely disconnceting the unit from the power source (including the battery).
A less mechanical thing would be to try to reset the bios (did you update it recently?) and see if it works again.
Last idea, no matter how "ridiculous" it might be - maybe you can "reset" your physical connection on the motherboard - like - if there is a connector - disconnect - reconnect it. Still - a very deep dive mechanical "solution", though.
After that still not having any success, i would get in contact with Dell and ask for a solution.
Hope that helps a little.
Cheers

I had a similar problem. I updated my bios and my backlight on my keys was fixed, thanks for the tips!
