Dell G3 laptop hinges broken

I own a dell G3 laptop and have been using it as a desktop for months now. Meaning I only open it once a day or so. Today when I tried to close it, I heard a crack and the hinges broke. This seems to be a factory defect as many people have this issue. I am wondering what can be done about it whether it be a refund, replacement or fix. I will attach a picture. I would like to make it clear I did not put any pressure on the screen and I have taken immaculate care of the laptop. This seems to be a factory I defect.A47767C0-FE9E-44E9-9446-5155503B8C80.jpeg

Hi @NickG01  welcome to this user to user discussion forum. This is not Dell Support.

Thank you for including image in your opening post. This shows that the outer enclosure has separated along a joint line, there is damage and cannot be gently pushed back together. If the hinges are somehow broken, do not push enclosure back together. Please provide more informationIt would assist other users, to share which Dell G3 model you have. Send Private Message to @DELL-Cares and ask for their assessment of this problem.

Thos was useful for gaining more clarity on my laptop's situation. Because past 2 years were lesser on mobility,  the laptop survived being used in one location like a desktop. Given what you have mentioned, I am curious, how  many others have this problem but are unaware.  Anyways, I hope @DELL-Cares helps us users soon.

Thanks!

I have a similar problem on my G3 15 a 2019 built. This issue happened sometime in May 2020. But damage to the hinge is not so substantial like yours. In my case, my laptop closes properly,  there is a press fit joint on the hinge, which fixes itself once I close laptop carefully.

Unlike you, I assumed my laptop hinge joint cover opened up, but there is no damage, as I can press fit it once i shut the laptop. I understand from your input and the response, that it is indeed a crack on enclosure. thank you!
