dell isnpiron 5515 does not turn on
I just bought a new Dell Inspiron 5515 ryzen 5 laptop and I was installing the cern root software which usually takes two hours to complete the installation process. So while the installation process was going on I left the laptop idle and was doing other work. after one hour when I come back and press the power button of the laptop it did not turn on. Then I tried several times to turn on the laptop but nothing worked.
Kindly help me! It is a brand new laptop.

I've also had this problem in the past week running Fedora 35. The issue appears to be a bug in certain versions of the Linux kernel (described in more detail here: https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/drm/amd/-/issues/1976) which prevents certain hardware from being able to wake from a sleep state.
I was able to resolve the issue by disconnecting and then reconnecting the battery (to fully power off the laptop and get it out of the sleep state), after which I was able to turn the laptop on again using the power button as normal. Then, once I was onto my system, I downgraded the kernel to a stable version (in my case 5.16.19, down from 5.16.20) to ensure that it doesn't recur.

Does that Dell model support installing cern root? You might have to reinstall Windows to receive warranty support. This is what cern root page says--
ROOT is available on Linux, Mac, and (as a beta release) on Windows.
Beta means experimental.

Actually, I am using dual boot and root was being installed on ubuntu 20.04 LTS.

You can try contacting tech support for troubleshooting over the phone, or a local computer shop. Dell will repair it for a fee (if you are out of warranty) or you can try to do it yourself: parts-people.com. http://dell.to/2vBgN1D

I would like to propose a fairly basic procedure. Press the power button for 30 seconds straight. Then plug it to power. Then while keeping the F2 button pressed, press the power button of the laptop.
One thing to keep in mind is that by default the "functionalities" of the function keys are switched in the UEFI settings. So you might have to press Fn + F2 before pressing the power button. Hope it helps.

After replacing the motherboard the laptop was working fine for one day but the next day it again stopped. This laptop is a mess!

Nothing Happened. Dell technician came to my home and he replaced the motherboard and then after one day the similar problem occurred. Now I am again going to complain.

Hello,
Unfortunately I have this problem my laptop (Inspiron 5515) no longer turns on (no display activity).
I had just received the laptop yesterday and installed linux mint 20.3 (cinnamon) pretty much upon receiving it as I have done on other machines. The laptop was working fine both yesterday and this morning with good battery consumption however tonight (after ~10 hour break of no use) it refuses to turn on at all.
I called customer support and we went through their checklist and there was no solution so I will be sending it to have its mother board repaired. I'm considering getting a different laptop as this seems to be an issue...

I was told they can do the repair, if there are new issues i'll get the ability to get refunded/ get a new laptop.
I'll see if they can fix it. But my hopes are not high considering we both have the same issue.

Hi,
This is what exactly happened with my laptop and the dell technician has also changed the motherboard but even then the problem was not solved. I don't know what is wrong with this model. if you do not use the laptop for 8-10 hours and u r using Linux then from the next day, it will not turn on. I do not know if Dell will provide me with the new laptop. I have again raised a complaint about this and they are saying that technician will come on 8th of March 2022.
