Finding The Internal Microphone

I was looking for the internal microphone, because though everything I could look for on my dad’s Dell Inspiron 3537 says that the microphone is working properly, the driver installed, I have updated, uninstall/reinstall the microphone and I even did a PC Reinstall Restore, this has not solved this problem.

I am presuming that the microphone has simply not been plugged in and before I set about taking this laptop apart, I thought best that I should know how far I should go in dissembling and pinpointing the item.

I do hope that you can help.

Yours sincerely

It is part of the display assembly, to the side of the webcam.  Service manual below.

Given the required disassembly needed to access it, the age of the system and plastic components including the brittle nature of plastic nearing a decade old), you're probably better off  just using an external USB microphone than trying to repair the internal one.

Install OEM Driver, then check mic
then go to Dell Audio->Advanced->Restore Defaults->Restore, then check mic

then go to Dell Audio turn on Microphone enhancement, set preset to Noisy Background, then check mic
