There are many ways to fix the brightness auto adjusting. One would be update your video drivers, then right click on the battery icon on the bottom right corner.Click on 'desktop mode battery charge' then 'battery status'and uncheck 'enable dell intelligent display'.
Next you can go into 'power options' change dell to 'balanced(recommended). Click change plan settings, change advanced power settings, scroll down to 'display' and click it open. From there click on 'enable adaptive brightness' and set both too off.Restart the laptop if needed. That has been the only way i have figured out how to fix the problem on my dell inspiron 15 7000 laptop."
Hi there, I tried to reply to this bus was bounced back x3..
so trying here before I go on my night shift..
Tried the D suggestion, saw the coloured screens then nothing. I have recharged the laptop, the red lights at the bottom stay on now, but the horizontal lines are continuing erratically from top of the screen to the bottom.
Unfortunately, the screen does not open up enough to access any 'buttons'.. tried again this morning. It took 4 mins to load up, and now I am left with 3 distinct layers on my screen, in a fixed position. I cannot access any icons on the screen at all.

Welcome to the Dell Community @LindaHem
Hold down the “ D “ key and power-on.
The laptop should go through an LCD test of solid White, Red, Green, Blue and Black 2 or 3 times.
After completion it should try to automatically boot 2 or 3 times.
Post your results.
Best regards,
U2
