Freezing
Greetings.
Okay, yeah, it's cold. But the title is doing more than hinting at the temps outside. My Inspiron 14 2-in-1 7425 (doing that for search strings) has taken to freezing after boot up and into Win11. Like, completely. Start up seems fine, i've watched with Task Manager to see if anything hikes up memory or CPU and nothing shows. But anywhere from 2 to 7 minutes after logging on it just freezes. Nothing moves. I can alter the keyboard lighting, but that's about it. And here's the kicker - the fan will begin to work harder after it freezes. This seems suspiciously like a failed software download/install, but Win Update doesn't show anything that didn't take. And i haven't updated with 24H2 yet. I had a suspicion this is what it is because i thought i may have lost battery power when an update was being installed. Didn't intend to get one while it was off the cable, but here we are. And i am at a loss. Event viewer doesn't show any crits, nor do there seem to be any hardware malfunctions. But i suppose that could also be a suspect. I've looked around online to see if i was the only one, and it appears not. But it also appears this is something new. And it is - this has now gone on for about 7 days. Any ideas or comments as to what this may be? I plan on going in and regressing an update or two back to some older sys restore point to see if that cures it, but i don't have high hopes for some reason. And there are no other updates optional or otherwise available.

I have an Inspiron 7425 2-in-1 running windows 11.
I am getting the same freezing one to two minutes after startup. Working on downloading 23H2, but it freezes before I can finish the update.
Mine has been plugged into power since before the issue began, and disconnecting from power doesn’t really change behavior.

@galacticfuton looks like 2025-01 cumulative for Win11 23H2 was the last update before the issue started. Working on 2025-02 now.

@galacticfuton Disabled all Dell Services on Startup, Uninstalled a number of apps that were working on Startup, and disabled real-time protection from Microsoft Defender.
This seems to have fixed the problem for now - update has finished installing without a freeze.

@galacticfuton Final Verdict on my system - Antimalware Service Executable was maxing out my memory resources in the 23H2 - looks like it’s been tamed somewhat in 24H2.
Turning off real-time protection really seemed to do the trick for the purposes of getting the updates started. Good luck!

Update:
So i told the thing to roll back to a previous state to get it to work. And it does. I had already dumped all the bloatware onboard and any other software i saw. It didn't show any hardware conflicts, nor did it need any firmware/BIOS updates. Really strange. Also gonna be weird when i do have to get 24H2 - will this happen again? How far will i need to roll back?
The journey continues...
