G15 5511, Broken Hinge

Dell G15 5511

Dell G15 5511

Dell G15 5511 purchased in Nov 2021 with 2 year hardware warranty. Dell refused to recognize the defect in the hinges and would not cover the repair under warranty. The hinge failure resulted in a cracked screen. The issue is that the two bottom screws separate from the metal in the screen casing. Bad design flaw that Dell hasn't recognized is an issue.

Hi @ddcb2023 welcome to this free user-to-user Alienware laptop discussion forum.

The G series laptop board includes DELL-FAQ: Broken Hinge Policy - USA - Dell Community. "Like all mechanical devices, hinges could be subject to failures. Consequently, we provide warranty coverage and a choice of Service Plan Agreements that furnish our customers with a range of options."

G Laptops (Inspirons) are not Alienware Laptops - Dell Community.

Same here.  Mine broke couple days ago.  My warranty expired in Jan 2023.  My screen is not crack but the plastic cover the screen broke and the hinges are separated from the bottom.  This is really a design flaw.  I've always bought Dell due to their quality but that doesn't seem to be the case anymore.

Here is how it look on mine.  The screen is very heavy and there is only 1 screw to hold it to the hinge (missing in the pictures).  What was you thinking Dell?  Two bottom screws on the hinge also got loose on both sides.  I had to tight them up.  I was able to get one screw from my old Dell laptop to replace the missing one on this new laptop :-(.  Because the screw popped out, it broke my LCD bezel as well.IMG_9220.jpgIMG_9221.jpgIMG_9222.jpgIMG_9223.jpg

I have this EXACT issue with my G15 5511. I should have realized that Dell's 1 year warranty underscored the significantly diminished quality of their systems and builds. (I also should have learned my lesson given that my previous laptop--a Dell Inspiron--failed within 2 years as well). Dell computers may have good specs, but the build quality and attached warranty are both garbage. This company doesn't stand behind its own products, so I'll no longer support/purchase from this company. Right-side detached/broken hingeRight-side detached/broken hingePieces/parts that fell out when broken bezel detachedPieces/parts that fell out when broken bezel detached

@RandySp I would recommend replacing the back cover with a replacement one and screwing the hinges back in to the new one. You can find replacement lcd back covers on sites like parts-people.com for around 25$.

I'm having this problem as well.  2 year old G15.  This is the third Dell laptop in a row that the back hinge has broken on me.

I've purchased no less than 10 Dell laptops for myself and family over the last ten years...this one is the last one.  I can't even sell it as the resale value is nothing when it's broken.

I am facing the same problem with my dell g15 i7  only in  8 month i am facing this problem..

...now Dell is saying I have to pay for parts....before that, I had Dell Vostro i5 and that laptop hardware and performance were top-notch in his specification zone.....now I feel very bad for my decision there were so many good other laptops too but I chose Dell because of my last machine trust.
