G5 5590, High performance missing

Hello everybody,

It's been a couple of days that I'm missing my high performance profile. Usually I don't use Windows power profiles, I use the power plans in Alienware, but now Windows select "Power" by default and I'm missing "high performance".

I can temporarily fix the issue by using the F7 key (G), but as soon as I close Alienware, Windows selects "Power" and "High performance" goes missing.

I have tried:
- Registry edit
- Powershell
- New profile in Windows power plans

Has anybody experienced this recently?
Any ideas?

Cheers

Alright, here is the solution:
- Do not restore your system or reinstall Win!
- Make sure Intel Speed Step is disabled in BIOS.
- You need modify the Modern sleep registry by typing this commande in CMD or powershell and restart:

reg add HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power /v PlatformAoAcOverride /t REG_DWORD /d 0

- Then add the missing power plans by typing these commandes in CMD or powershell:
   Restore Power saver power plan:
powercfg -duplicatescheme a1841308-3541-4fab-bc81-f71556f20b4a
   Restore Balanced power plan:
powercfg -duplicatescheme 381b4222-f694-41f0-9685-ff5bb260df2e
   Restore High Performance power plan:
powercfg -duplicatescheme 8c5e7fda-e8bf-4a96-9a85-a6e23a8c635c
   Restore Ultimate Performance power plan:
powercfg -duplicatescheme e9a42b02-d5df-448d-aa00-03f14749eb61

That's it.

Conclusion: All of this happened after a forced win update, updating the BIOS and few registeries. What happens is when speed step is enabled, win hides all the power plans and leave only one (usually Balanced) available.

By the way, doing this will help you to get back all the advanced option in power management.

Here is an update to my situation:
I managed to add some profiles by disabling "Intel speed shift technology".
But "Power" is selected by default, I can choose another profile through Alienware, but as soon I close Alienware it will go back to "Power".
Hope someone can help.
Cheers

Second update;

My CPU is automatically underclocked to 2.6Ghz, so I disabled the Intel speedstep and intel turbo boost in Bios to see if that changes anything but it didn't!

So i'm resorting to last option, a fresh install and will report back.

Windows is changing locations for stuff in the control panel. Do this and you will get back high performance setting even though it does not show up in power plans anymore. Right click taskbar and open taskbar settings>>scroll down to notification are on right hand side >>click select which icons to show on taskbar>>Turn on the power icon. Then go back and click turn system icons on or off>>Turn on power icon. Now click on power icon in system tray and use the slider for best performance setting. Enjoy

Hi,

Thank you for your reply, my power notification is already on and I have selected best performance but my CPU won't turbo to 4.25 like before, and I really enjoyed the flexebility of selecting different power modes. Has this happened to you recently?
Thx

These steps worked, but only after I also went in to Windows Mobility Center and switched back and forth the power options there, under Battery Status. Then they finally showed up under Power Options.
