Installing Windows 11 Recent Update Preview
I keep getting a green screen with an unhappy face telling me that boot device not found when trying to update windows 11 current preview build. I haven't had an issue updating prior. And yes, windows 11 is already installed and my laptop is perfectly fine to install windows 11. Microsoft gave me some instructions. In doing so, they told me that I couldn't install windows 11 with a raid. My laptop came setup with a raid. It has an intel h20 optane. I don't have any experience setting up a raid. When I followed his advice and disable the raid, it wouldn't load. I had to change it back. I found instructions on here telling me how to install windows 11 with a raid. But, when I went through the process the black screen with the dell logo came up but it didn't go past that. Anyone know how I can the newest build of windows 11 without disabling a raid? I prefer to keep the set up as it is because I would have no clue how to set it back up.

Hi
Try...........
To install Windows 11 on a Dell machine with a RAID array, follow these steps:
Ensure BIOS settings are correct:
Enter BIOS by pressing F2 during startup
Set SATA operation to RAID mode
Enable UEFI boot mode
Create the RAID array:
Use the RAID configuration utility in BIOS to set up your desired RAID level5
Prepare installation media:
Download the Windows 11 ISO
Create a bootable USB drive using Rufus
Download necessary drivers:
Obtain the Intel Rapid Storage Technology (IRST) driver from Dell's support website
Extract the driver files and copy them to your installation USB
Begin installation:
Boot from the USB drive
When prompted for drive selection, click "Load driver"
Browse to the IRST driver location on your USB and select it
Complete the Windows 11 installation process

@ann_droid I'm confused...a raid is already set up. Why would I need to set it up again to install the preview/update?

@Chino de Oro This is the same instructions that I mentioned in the original post. When following them it would get stuck on the black Dell screen and nothing would happen.

Since you are going to install operating system from scratch, I suggest that you can upgrade your storage to solid state drive instead of using old spinning drive with optane cache.
Many Dell laptops with default RAID storage can be installed Win 11 24H2 without the F6 driver (Intel RST).

@ann_droid I tried starting using your instructions. There is no RAID configuration utility in Bios. I don't know if it's because it's already set up...or your instructions are less than informative.

Still waiting to see if anyone has any answers. I've tried to do this several times since. The Dell help articles aren't very helpful. The screenshots do not match and the directions also do not match the options presented. When getting to the part where I choose the UEFI for the USB where the installation media is, it does go through the process until it gets to the installation part and only shows the USB thumb drive as a location to install instead of the internal. As far as I have been able to understand, the issue is because the system is set up as a raid, but previous Windows 11 updates have worked so I don't understand why this one is any different. I've included a screenshot of the system information as well as the device manager for the disks to show it's already a SSD and it has Intel H20 Optane memory. I have tried using the information in the online Dell article https://www.dell.com/support/kbdoc/en-us/000140714/how-to-install-windows-10-when-intel-optane-is-installed-on-a-dell-pc. This is the article that I mentioned previously not having exactly the same screenshots or information.
