LCD power rail failure 2,8 error code

Greetings Dellers,
If anyone has any thoughts re the issue, I’d be very grateful.
I was carrying the laptop whilst open and slightly knocked the outside of the screen (the top cover) against a hard surface. It wasn’t a blow, but the screen went black immediately (whilst still being somewhat lit) and wouldn’t come back on again. I’ve run the diagnostic test and the LED now blinks 2,8 which apparently corresponds to LCD power rail failure. I can see the proposed solution is to change the system board, but I wonder if it’s not that and rather has something to do with the fact that I knocked the laptop. In other words, how accurate these error codes?
Many thanks,

Maria

Before going that (expensive) route,

Unplug the system, disconnect the battery from the mainboard and hold the power button for 30 sec.  Depending on the system model, disconnect and reconnect one or both ends of the video cable (from the mainboard and back of the screen for a non-touchscreen model, or just from the mainboard on a touchscreen model).

Then reassemble the system and see if it'll power up.  If you get the same error sequence, replace the system board.

same problem. 2-8 code on latitude 3410 laptop, accidentally after bumping (no dent or crack) my laptop on the door edge. opened my laptop and remove everything attached like memory and such on the mobo and putting them back one by one. the only thing it turned on is when i removed my NVMe. turns out the screw holder is little loose. even though everything holds fine. i tried wiggling it. using an old HDD 2.5 without the NVME. everything was fine.

Same problem after dropping 7400 2 feet on concrete. Removed back cover of laptop and removed metal bracket holding down LCD connector near right side of hinge when looking at back side of laptop with hinge at top. Removed and reseated the LCD connector. Laptop now powers up fine.

It turned out mine was actually to do with a broken hinge! Back to my original comment about the accuracy of those error codes.. Go figure.

@Silcado what you mean by 'reseated' the LCD connector? just pull it off and plug it again ?
