Led error code 1 amber 4 white

I got my computer about a year ago and now I'm using it for school. I noticed recently that I am getting what I believe is an error code on the battery light, next to the HDMI port. It will flash as 1 amber then 4 white. The amber light will flash and then there will be a pause before 4 white lights flash quite quickly. I haven't gotten anything in the laptop, and its been charging and maintaining the battery as normal. The caps lock light is also stuck on, but the error code is what I need help with. Any help is greatly appreciated, thank you. The model is Inspiron 7306 2n1

If you're experiencing no post issues with your laptop, please don't hesitate to contact our support team. You can use the Get Help Now chat feature located at the bottom right corner of the page.

The chat button is marked with a help icon for easy recognition, as shown in the image below:

Additionally, we recommend performing a hard reset, as this has resolved the issue for some users:

  1. Turn off your computer.
  2. Disconnect the power adapter.
  3. Remove the base cover.
  4. Disconnect the battery cable.
  5. Press and hold the power button for 20-30 seconds to drain any residual power.
  6. Reconnect the battery cable.
  7. Reinstall the base cover.
  8. Reconnect the power adapter.
  9. Turn on your computer.

You need to post the model number you have as those led error codes can be different per model .

It isn't documented in the manual for that system, but 1,4  is usually a faulty battery error.  Shut down, disconnect AC power and remove the base cover.  Disconnect the battery from the system board and power up on AC only.

If the flash sequence ceases, the battery needs to be replaced.

I am sure about the pattern, I haven't found anything about it online though.

Hello,

The pattern is pointing to a faulty battery you could try what @ejn63 said open your laptop disconnect the battery from the motherboard and powerup on AC power only if that pattern disappaers now you know for sure it is the battery. If you do not feel comfortable opeing your laptop you can also try to run ePSA while you start the laptop repeatly press F12 and choose diagnostics.

Please follow the steps mentioned below to check if the adapter is detected properly.

  1. Start the computer by pressing the power button
  2. Press the F2 key 2-3 times
  3. You will now be on the BIOS screen
  4. Under the Main Tab look for the option that says AC Adapter Type
  5. If the Adapter Type says Unknown or None with the adapter plugged in.
  6. Reconnect the adapter to the machine and if the status now shows as Unknown then the AC Adapter needs to be replaced.

Oddly enough I checked the bios and everything was normal, so I did a hard reset and plugged it in and it stopped flashing. It's fine now and even the caps lock light is fixed.

I can tell you that I am now on my 9th inspiron in a year for trouble with the caps lock light stick on. All Nine have had this problem and Number 8 is with Dell and they press the Caps lock Key occasionally and can't replicate the problem. Good Luck.
