MaxxAudioPro "audio driver is not up to date" and no device pop up - Inspirion 7490

OK, this is getting a bit silly.

I have just received a replacement Inspiron 7490.  This replacement laptop was sent because I couldn't get an external microphone to work when plugged into the 3.5mm jack and after Dell replaced both the daughter and mother board on the original one.

Out of the box, it all worked fine.  Now, after updating using both Windows update and Dell update, I am getting the infamous MaxxAudioPro error "audio driver is not up to date" and am no longer getting the plugged in device pop up that allows me to choose "headset".

Can anyone tell me EXACTLY how to fix this issue?

Thanks

Yay!  OK, finally got it to work.

Instead of uninstalling the driver from the Device Manager, I uninstalled it from "Programs and Features" from the control panel.

So, this is the process that I used to get it to work

Go to "Control Panel" => "Programs (uninstall a program)".  Find the Realtek Audio Driver in the list, right click, uninstall.  Reboot the device.

Once rebooted, go to https://www.dell.com/support/home and search for the correct device (in my instance, Inspiron 7490) and click on the "Drivers and Downloads tab".  Search for "Realtek High Definition Audio Driver" and download.

Once downloaded install and follow the prompts to install.  Make sure you reboot when you are done

This really is much harder than it should or needs to be.  I am convinced that the issue with my original laptop is pretty much the same, but Dell support went the hardware route.  At least they sent me a replacement after my original one had been disassembled twice.

Updates (many not needed) can cause a lot of problems.

If the Windows update installed a different Realtek driver that can be a problem.  MaxxAudio only works with the Dell supplied Realtek driver.

First try a driver rollback (option in the Device Manager for the Realtek).  To access the Device Manager,

RIGHT click the start icon (lower left) and then select Device Manager.

If the driver rollback doesn't fix it, download the Realtek driver from the Dell downloads (link below).

Best to avoid or be very selective with the Dell update program.  It has been known to cause problems.

First things first.  What drivers are we talking about?  I have "Audio Inputs and Outputs".  I have "Sound, Video and game controllers".

I have already attempted to uninstall the High definition Audio Device driver and the Intel Display Audio driver from "sound, Video...." many many times in the last few hours.  I must be crazy as I am trying exactly the same thing....

Also, Rollback is unavailable

Move forward 11 months. After 4 hours of Dell top shelf support, they decided my motherboard was at fault, set up a second MOBO replacement and left my computer worse off. The problem was no audio via the headphone jack.

Two days, five total techs and while waiting for updates, I searched one more time (using my iMAC), finding this thread. I follow the instructions, uninstall the RealTek driver from "Apps and Features", then go to Dell Support Home and download the lastest driver. I now have audio on my "broken" motherboard headphone jack.

No so funny is that Dell's tools did not find the updated driver. That includes the app installed on my Vostro 5880 or the online tool. Even sadder, Dell Tech support, while polite, wasn't able to either get MaxxAudioPro to function. One tech left MaxxAudioPro claiming the audio codec wasn't compatible and the second tech left MaxxAudioPro looking for an updated Driver.
Thanks! I can't wait for that Manager follow-up.

Oh man this works in 2023 checked.
I had the problem that the headphone jack didn't work. Just the speakers. I followed the steps and it worked fine.
