Problem recording sound - Realtek Stereo Mix

Hello! I'm new to the forum, and hope you can help me with an annoying problem which has recently occurred on my Dell 5577 Gaming Laptop?

I am no longer able to record sound from my Laptop. This seems to have coincided with a windows 10 update, but I can't be sure.....

I can play sound through the speakers and headphones, but anything that records audio (Audacity, Corel ScreenCap, Ashampoo) no longer works.....If the sound source is de-selected, I can record video, but with no audio. As soon as I select "Realtek Stereo Mix" as the sound source, the recording software refuses to record anything....

I have checked that "Realtek Stereo Mix" is enabled in sound settings, and that it is selected as the sound source in the recording software. I have updated all the drivers and the settings for the realtek say I have the latest driver (6.0.1.9142 Sept 2017).

Any help would be appreciated! I My understanding of these things is limited - I gather "Realtek" is the sound card in the laptop? How can it play sounds but not allow recording?

In the latest Windows 10 Feature Update 1803, many users experienced a bug where the update disable their microphone. To fix this, go to Windows \ Settings \ Privacy \ Microphone.  Make sure "Allow apps to access your microphone" is enabled as well as any apps you want to use your microphone with.

My god! That's it! - that has fixed it!

Thank you so much! - I can't believe it was so simple!

I have been trying to solve this problem for weeks - and Tech help from Corel, Ashampoo and Dell have all failed to come up with this simple answer!

Well done - and thanks again!
