Welcome to the Dell Community  @My_PC_1

Time to replace the HDD.

PSA 1000-0142

ePSA 2000-0142
PSA Hard Drive - Drive self test failed.

ePSA Hard Drive - Self test unsuccessful.
Your hard disk drive has indicated a failure.
  • Update to the latest BIOS and Hard drive Firmware.
  • Turn off your computer and reconnect your hard disk drive (HDD) to the system board (see your service manual for instructions).
  • Repeat the PSA diagnostics.
  • When the diagnostics still results in an error code, visit our ePSA online tool. You can get more information on possible resolutions to your issue and even get a part dispatched if needed.

Use the Dell OS Recovery Tool to create a USB recovery drive that you can use to reinstall the version of Windows or Linux that came with your PC:

https://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/Drivers/OSISO/recoverytool

First “Create” a folder on your desktop called "Dell OS"

"Extract" the file to that folder.

Then go to that folder and double click on "DellOSRecoveryTool"

It should then produce a desktop shortcut called "DellOSRecoveryTool"

Double click on that desktop shortcut to start the process to create the USB Recovery drive.

Best regards,

U2

NOTE:

To better assist you, the members and I would need the exact model number of your laptop/desktop???

@My_PC_1

Yes you can replace the HDD with an SSD.

At the moment I think 4TB is the max that the industry manufactures that will fit???

Crucial comes highly recommended and is extremely compatible!!!
