Time-of-day not set - Please run SETUP Program

Hello all,

I have this Inspiron 5406 2-in-1 laptop that was purchased roughly 1.5 years ago. I didn't use the laptop for few months as I was working from home and mostly used the work laptop, but as I've begun using the laptop more and more in the past few weeks I've been noticing the following behaviors which I posted about:

(-  After I shut down the laptop overnight and try to turn on by pressing the power button the next day, power doesn't come on right away. I have to either hold down the power button over a minute or have to press it multiple times before the laptop would turn on OR

-  I have to power drain the machine, connect the charger, and then boot it up)

This morning for the first time this message flashed when I tried to boot the machine: 'Time-of-day not set - Please run SETUP Program'

It gave me an option to go into the BIOS menu which I did, set the bios to default, and rebooted the machine. The machine booted up fine and is running okay now, but this is making me wonder what all these symptoms indicate.

I've never experienced anything similar to these. So if someone who has went through similar experience or a skilled member of the community can help me figure out what the issue is that'd be greatly appreciated.

Buy a new coin cell battery. Computers that are unused for long periods usually need that battery replaced. Support for Inspiron 5406 2-in-1 | Documentation | Dell US

It is a cheap fix and the battery is available in any store that sells batteries. See your Service manual.

You're referring to the CMOS battery?
