UEFI boot sequence empty, hard drive not showing

IMG_20200928_004141.jpg

It started with 'No boot device found' then it escalated to the windows manager missing from the boot sequence and the 'add file' shows 'no media device found'. The only thing that's showing is the NIC

Look under Main. Is the drive physically installed?

What model system?

If you have not run the Dell diagnostics (F12 at powerup), it's time to do that.

You may also use the "Get Help Now" option at the bottom right to chat with a Dell technician right away.

Did you make any changes to the system - either manually, or install updates (Windows or in particular a BIOS update) between the last time it booted and now?

Or did the issue appear suddenly?

I repairing it from recovery when it showed BSOD. After repairing it showed an endless black screen and I guess that's when the 'No boot device' started @ejn63

You're going to need to boot the system from a Windows 10 installer flash drive to attempt repair (and since it may in fact be impossible to repair the system, a reinstallation may well be required - which in turn will require the install media).

If you don't have that, you can prepare a set:

The problem is that the UEFI boot loader needs to be rebuilt, either manually (see the first link I posted) or by reloading Windows (the second link).

Until that's rebuilt, the system won't find a bootable drive.

To boot from the flash drive, press F12 at powerup a couple of times, and select it from the boot menu that appears (if you do not see it as a bootable option, it was not made properly).

I tried using a hard disk that has the windows image but it still gives the same error. When I plugged it in I checked the boot menu and the drive wasn't showing in the UEFI sequence. I really don't know what's going on anymore. @ejn63

If your UEFI boot sequence is empty and your hard drive is not showing up, it indicates a potential problem with your system's hardware or configuration. Here are some steps you can take to address this issue:

  1. Check Hardware Connections: Ensure that the hard drive is properly connected to the motherboard and power supply. If you're using a laptop, this might involve opening up the laptop, so if you're not comfortable doing this, consider seeking professional help.

  2. Check Drive Detection in BIOS/UEFI: Enter the BIOS/UEFI settings during boot (usually by pressing a key like F2, F12, Delete, or ESC) and navigate to the section that shows connected storage devices. If your hard drive isn't listed, it might not be properly connected, or there could be a hardware failure.

  3. Check SATA/Power Cables: If you're using a desktop, ensure that the SATA and power cables connecting the hard drive are securely plugged in.

  4. Try Different SATA Port: If you have multiple SATA ports on your motherboard, try connecting the hard drive to a different port to see if it gets detected.

  5. Reset BIOS/UEFI Settings: Sometimes, incorrect BIOS/UEFI settings can cause storage devices not to be detected. You can try loading default or optimized settings in the BIOS/UEFI to see if that resolves the issue.

  6. Update BIOS/UEFI: If your motherboard has a firmware (BIOS/UEFI) update available, consider updating it. Sometimes, firmware updates include fixes for hardware detection issues.

  7. Test the Hard Drive: If possible, test the hard drive in another system to determine if it's functioning properly. You can also try connecting a different working hard drive to your current system to see if it gets detected.

  8. Check for Hard Drive Failure: Hard drives can fail over time. If your hard drive is not being detected, it could potentially be a hardware failure. Listen for any unusual sounds coming from the hard drive, as mechanical noises can be a sign of impending failure.

  9. Inspect for Physical Damage: Examine the hard drive for any physical damage. If the hard drive has suffered physical damage, it might not function properly.

  10. Data Recovery: If your hard drive is not detected and contains important data, you might consider seeking professional data recovery services to retrieve your files.

  11. Contact Support: If none of the above steps resolve the issue, it's recommended to contact your system's manufacturer's technical support for further assistance.

Please be aware that working with hardware components can be risky, especially if you're not experienced. If you're not comfortable performing these steps on your own, seeking help from a professional technician is a good idea to avoid causing further damage.

@Capucin hi , to resolve your problem,

1st go to bios settings and reset bios to default not factory default

2nd creat windows 10 installation with refus and make sure to select GPT not MBR

3rd reboot your laptop or PC and install your windows when it finished let it reboot and unplug the USB stick before the PC powerd on

4th continue the installation and congratulations.

I hope that will help
