To run virtual nodes on an ESX server, you must be coverted with the converter tool from VMware. Use the Converter tool for vCenter or download and install VMware vCenter Converter Standalone. Both are free.
Using the standalone in the example below:
continue in the wizard, and then click "next". Once you have the VM on your ESX server, if you want to run more than one node, you will then just convert it to a template and create new VMs from that template
Sorry guys, but I can not understand why this is the correct answer.
The question was: How to install Isilon simulator on virtualbox? Virtualbox means a free virtualization technology (for more information please see Oracle VM VirtualBox).
With the resources defined as kwk described (
ide primay master disk is "boot0.vmdk"
scsi disk port 0 is "storage0.vmdk"
scsi disk port 1 is "storage1.vmdk"
scsi disk port 2 is "storage2.vmdk"
scsi disk port 3 is "storage3.vmdk"
scsi disk port 4 is "isi-nvram.vmdk"
)
the virtual machine can be booted, but does not start formatting drives as expected. Instead it throws an error message:
I can't see any reference to VMWare Converter. Please give me a hint on what point I did not understand the explanation, because me too, I want to bring my Isilon VM up and running in Virtualbox.
I have the same worries as TWK. Your answer does not answer the original question. The trouble is not to boot the machine under vmware but under virtualbox. Is this possible to work under VirtualBox?
currently, the simulator does not support hosting on virtualization solutions other than VMware-based solutions. That means you will need to run it on top of ESXi, VMware workstation, VMware fusion, or VMware workstation player (free for non-commercial use). Although I have not tested recently, the last time I tried, the simulator would not run under VirtualBox.
