InsightIQ 3.0

Did anyone started using insightIQ version 3.0 and like to share their feedback? I'm planning on upgrading 2.5.1 to 3.0 in few weeks and like to know if there are any glitches with new version.

thanks in advance.

You're probably located behind a proxy server. Edit /etc/yum.conf and add some proxy info and the next time you run the command it'll function okay.

Also a good idea to now update openssl, with the heartbleed bug and all...

Did you get this error ?

[administrator@IIQ1 ~]$ sudo yum upgrade isilon-insightiq-3.0.0.0036-1.x86_64.rpm

[sudo] password for administrator:

Loaded plugins: fastestmirror

Loading mirror speeds from cached hostfile

Could not retrieve mirrorlist http://mirrorlist.centos.org/?release=6&arch=x86_64&repo=os error was

14: PYCURL ERROR 22 - "The requested URL returned error: 401"

Error: Cannot find a valid baseurl for repo: base

[administrator@IIQ1 ~]$

Update:

Checked with support and it needs some dependency packages to be downloaded from the site listed above and the error will appear if there is no internet connection. Most of the customers will block internet access from the data center subnets where the server resides and opening up ports is a long procedure. Instead of connecting to a internet and download dependencies, they should have listed missing dependencies so that we can install the missing ones and proceed with the install.

# sudo yum deplist isilon-insightiq-3.0.0.0036-1.x86_64.rpm ( also tries gives same error)

# sudo yum resolvedep  isilon-insightiq-3.0.0.0036-1.x86_64.rpm (no luck)

The only option left is ignore dependencies and install the rpm which may or may-not work.

Running v3.0.0.0036.

First install, Isilon Nooby.

Love it so far no issues. Great tool very granular reports.

OneFS rocks.

Dear Dynamox,

Could you please help me, I have InsightIQ - (Linux version) installed in the customer environment. Could please help me out how to generate a report about the subdirectory level utilization using InsighIQ with out setting quotas on those subdirectories. For Example:

     1. Actual directory path: /ifs/data/Unix

     2. Actual directory path: /ifs/data/Windows

Here under Unix & Windows are having around 100 subdirectories each. Also these directories doesn't comes under any quota. Kindly help me out as soon as possible.

Thanks in advanced.

Hi,

I am running ver 2.5.2 on a VMWare ESXi 5.0 environnement. Is there a way to upgrade to 3.0 or I need to reinstall from fresh?

I look at the installation guide and they only talk about upgrade for linux RPM not for OVA image. Also the import only work from the same ver of IQ. How to import from 2.5 to 3.0?

you use the same process to upgrade the appliance (using rpm), you don't need to deploy a new appliance.

It looks like it needs a connection to internet to download the dependency packages and it is not running the upgrade. They suggested building another VM of same 2.5.1, transfer the data from original server as backup, update the original server by ignoring the dependencies and if it works great use it otherwise use the backup host, then built a fresh VM with 3.0 version and import the data ( option 2).

can you download those dependencies on another host, scp them to InsightIQ VM, rpm install them and then try InsightIQ upgrade ?

The upgrade process is not listing the missing dependencies and I guess the list of dependencies are somewhere in rpm install package and I have no idea how to get the list. The installation guide also do not have that information.

I've had nothing but issues with the latest version, from problems upgrade the datastore to migrate my data, even deployed a new OVA of 3.0 and created a whole new datastore (ditching all my historical data) still problems. Been going back and forth with support for about six weeks on a reporting issue where if I look at the cluster performance and break it down by client "other clients" shows up as 60% which they attribute to SyncIQ yet a breakdown by procotol shows only 27% is SyncIQ (Siq).

Does it have a pretty new UI to match OneFS 7.x? Yes. Does it provide some additional reporting for OneFS 7.1 clusters? Yes. Does it run slower on performance reporting? Yes. Does it add the ability to send InsighIQ alerts via e-mail? Yes (but it's disabled by default).

My recommendation is to carefully read the release notes and decide if there's anything you really want from it, if there isn't, wait for 3.1 or a subsequent release to use it. Or ignore me, I'm always told "you must use 'blah' differently than all our other customers, none of them have this issue".

Why did you ditch the historical data?
It could have easily been carried forward.

March 31st, 2014 22:00

Easily was not my experience in trying to carry it forward, after about 5 different attempts to run the iiq datastore upgrade script with differing degrees of sucess or failure each time I was left with about a week of incomplete and missing data. My previous experience with Isilon support on issues with InsightIQ was disappointing to say the least, I was merely attempting what I thought to be the cleanest and quickest path to v3.0.

They say hindsight is 20/20 and if I had known all the issues I've encountered thus far with v3 I would've never attempted to upgrade. I only wish it was as easy as you seem to make it sound.

Hi Dynamox,

I tried downloading the dependencies once. The only problem is those dependencies have many other dependencies.

I ended up downloading 30+ packages and still was being asked for more.

I think we have two ways from here:
1. If you have a proxy setup, add the credentials to the Isilon VM. You will be able to access the cent OS repositories then.

2. Deploy a new IIQ 3.0 VM. Therafter migrate and  upgrade the datastore.
