"Instant" tiering?

So we're a post production house, using adobe premiere pro.

We have a couple of H500 clusters, and also some A200 in those clusters as tier2.

Until now we have however not used smartpools to automatically move any data between the tiers, at least not in production.

The idea is(like everyone else) to move old data(i.e. not modified for X days) to tier2.

We've ran into a problem though, when testing our video editors say the media more frequently goes "offline"("pending media") in premiere pro when the files are on tier2.

I can't understand why as the client access is still going through the H500s. The A200s don't have any load on them.

Anyhow they want the data to be moved back to tier1 as soon as they're working on it again, is there a way to accomplish that? From what I understand data is only moved between the tiers when the smartpools or filepolicy jobs run and that's only once per day...

I guess we could schedule it to run more frequent, but I doubt that would be acceptable. They can't sit and wait for hours while data is moved. They want it back instantly.

Hi,

Thanks for your question. I don’t see anything that allows for tiering on access. https://dell.to/3MCQr9h This may help https://dell.to/3GFUZaV
