Isilon 7.2 Simulator config wizard: No prompt to Configure interface ext-1

Hello ALL,

I am working on creating Isilon 7.2 imulator cluster. I was able to configure netmask and int-1 IP ranges. The wizard prompts you.

However, when configuring interface ext-1, there is no prompt. It simply asks you Use internal interface for external subnet and exit configuration

However, you do get a prompt to configure ext-1 interface in Isilon 8.0 Simulator.

I am not interested in using the internal interface for external subnet. Does Isilon 7.0 Simulator does NOT offer ext-1 interface wizard?

I am a bit puzzled.

I appreciate your feedback here. Thank you.

Hi al.kaya,

I have not run into this myself, however the only reason I could think that you wouldn't see an option to configure ext-1 is if the wizard didn't recognize any virtual hardware options for an external network interface.

If it isn't the virtual hardware configuration, keep in mind that 7.0 is fairly old software. You may have more luck with one of the newer versions of OneFS.

Here is a video instruction on setting up 7.2 simulator. You can see it gives the option to set up ext there:

Hello sjones5,

Thank you for your reply. The link you have provided is for Isilon 8.0. As mentioned, it offers to option to set up ext there.

I am also running Isilon 8.0 on the same ESX server and the cluster that I wanted to set up the older version of the simulator. Virtual hardware options for an external network interface was recognized during the wizard configuration.

I would need the older version. Yes, 7.2 is old and I am not sure if it is virtual hardware related but it could be.

Thank you.

Hi sjones5,

of course the 7.2.x.x simulator offers the ability to configure ext-1 interfaces the same as the other interfaces.

As I can remember all OneFS simulators have nearly the same wizards. With newer OneFS versions there are some more options during the wizard process - but the main features are always the same. I checked it with the 7.2.0.0 simulator:

Maybe there is something wrong with your VMware configuration or with the virtual network adaptors.

You don't a physical interface for the Isilon int-a if everything is on the same ESXi host.

Just create and assign a vSwitch in vSphere, and use the physical interface for ext-1.
