Isilon backup privilege

I have a program that correctly implements SeBackupPrivilege and "backup intent" flag and allows the reading of ACLs on Windows SMB based file systems even if explicit NTFS ACLs are not present for the user. This does not appear to work when running against our Isilon NAS system. On some other NAS platforms I can get around this by placing my user ID in the local Administrators group and/or local Backup Operators. However this also appears to have no effect for the Isilon system. Is there a setting or technique available to obtain this information without setting the user to have full root authority on the shares? Isilon v6.5.4.4

Might this be something that needs to be "run as root"?

Yes, "run as root" grants sufficient priviledges but most customers are unwilling to grant this level of access (totally unrestricted) just for th purpose of auditing permissions on files and shares. I would like to learn if there is a way to do this without having to grant full access and control of the file system which is a security concern.
