@lamsarr2,

Have you resolved the REST API issue?  If not, try rebooting node 2?

1. check if the isi_papi_d service is enabled :

# isi services -a isi_papi_d

2. if the isi_papi_d service is disabled, enable it by running the following command :

# isi services -a isi_papi_d
Service 'isi_papi_d' is enabled.

3. if the isi_papi_d service was already enabled, check the /var/log/apache2/webui_httpd_error.log for errors such as this :

2018-09-24T11:47:56Z <18.3> PDC-NAS-ISN01-20 httpd[80131]: [:error] [pid 80131:tid 34676253696] (20)Not a directory: [client 192.168.10.10:37994] FastCGI: failed to connect to server "/usr/sbin/isi_papi_d": socket file descriptor (1712) is larger than FD_SETSIZE (1024), you probably need to rebuild Apache with a larger FD_SETSIZE
2018-09-24T11:47:56Z <18.3> PDC-NAS-ISN01-20 httpd[80131]: [:error] [pid 80131:tid 34676253696] [client 10.0.2.63:37994] FastCGI: incomplete headers (0 bytes) received from server "/usr/sbin/isi_papi_d"
2018-09-24T11:47:56Z <18.3> PDC-NAS-ISN01-20 httpd[80131]: [:error] [pid 80131:tid 34676253696] [client 10.0.2.63:37994] FastCGI: do_work() failed with ret 500 for request GET /platform/1/cluster/config HTTP/1.1

if you see the above error, you should restart the isi_papi_d service by running the below commands :

# isi services -a isi_papi_d disable

# isi services -a isi_papi_d enable

Hi Josh,

I executed the commands and checked the service Service 'isi_papi_d' is enabled.
And in "/var/log/apache2/webui_httpd_error.log" we have below the Output of the executed command. Then we have disabled and reactivated the "isi_papi_d" service and the problem still remains. We still have errors in the console ("UVS-ISILON-1# isi status
Failed to connect to REST server: [61] Connection refused")
and in the WebUI "erver-side failure with status code 500".

I also restarted Node 2, but no change.

Have you engaged support?

Yes, I opened a SR and we worked with dell/EMC support for two weeks on this issue but they couldn't solve the problem.

As far as troubleshooting the Dell/EMC support has done all the possible troubleshooting that he could and he had reached the end of it. After all nodes was re-formatted multiple time and tried with different of OneFS 8.1.2.0 and 8.2.0.0, configured with or without DNS and confirmed front and backend connectivity but finaly the new deployment issue could not be resolved.

@lamsarr2,

Can you try commands with "-t 300" option? it means "timeout 300 seconds".  The default is 60 seconds I think.

Example:

isi -t 300 status

were you able to solve the issue? I am seeing the same problem.

Hi,

I was resolved my issue by changing the backend swicth role at leaf.

smartfabric l3fabric enable role LEAF

Hello!

Thanks for posting this resolution, this just saved a greenfield install that my colleague and I have been bashing our faces into for 2 days straight with multiple node re-image attempts.

All in, we had to perform the following config on both of the Z9100 QSFP Switches used for internal connectivity on this H400 cluster with QSFP breakout cables:

# config

# feature auto-breakout

# write memory

# smartfabric l3fabric enable role LEAF

Thanks for sharing!

Just wanted to throw my THANKS!! in here as well.

Been a while since I've worked on a physical Isilon install and in the past if the Back-End switches are only being used for internal/back-end traffic they were always "zero-touch".  Well I guess that is not the case anymore.

4 x Node A200 install with 2 x Dell S4112-ON for back-end/internal traffic ONLY.

Created cluster with first node and everything seemed normal.  As soon as I added the 2nd node into the cluster everything broke.  WebUI error, no auth service and REST error when logging into CLI...ect.  I reformatted and tried again, but same thing.

Called support (ultimately not much help initially) and came across this post while waiting on triage to get me to a support engineer.

As soon as I enabled SmartFabric on the switched, everything worked as I would expect it to.

I checked the latest solve documentation, and it does mention enabling SmartFabric, but is a little confusing, because it makes it sound like you only need to enable SFS if using the switches in a Leaf-Spine topology.  Not the case.  It needs to be enabled regardless!!
